Hi Xyce team,

Just a quick question. Is there any plan in the future to include envelope simulation in Xyce ( kind of a harmonic balance performed at discrete points in time) ?
I have seen that in the past there were some multi-time PDE analysis foreseen for the analysis of signal with widely separated timescale, but I do not know that much about this method and I am more familiar with envelope simulation.
Do you have any recommendation for the analysis of modulated signal in Xyce where  the modulation signal vary slowly compared to the carrier ( I am mostly interested by digital modulation such as , PSK, QAM,.....)

Thank you.

Hi Alex,

Thanks for your interest in Xyce.  Developing more advanced simulation techniques in Xyce, such as envelope simulations, are in our future to-do list. The harmonic balance based envelope simulation you mentioned is Fourier Envelope method.  There is also time domain envelope-following method. These envelope simulations are typically in RF simulators.

The multi-time PDE analysis in Xyce is not a productionized feature. The MPDE is a unified framework and most envelope methods mentioned previously are variants of MPDE methods. However, these variants, such as Fourier envelope and envelop following methods, are not developed in Xyce. Without more efficient envelope analysis, you can use transient analysis for your problems. However, depending on the separation of the fast and slow time scales, the transient analysis can be really slow in certain circuits.

Thanks,

The Xyce team
