Re the future of XXCLONE:

I am a computer technician in Ireland and have supplied XXClone to a number of my clients over the years.

I had correspondence with Kan earlier this year (sadly I had no idea how ill he was) and last week I sent the following email to the 3 addresses that I had used in previous communications with him.

The addresses I used were: sales [at] pixielab.com, tech [at] xxclone.com and a gmail address which was Kan's personal email address.

The email read:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"To any of Kan's family who may be reading this, I wish to convey my sincere condolences regarding Kan's recent death.
As a long-time user of XXClone, who has recommended it to many clients here in Ireland, I am anxious to know whether Kan's excellent work will be continued.
When I last tried to download evaluation copies of the software for a new customer, they were time-expired.
Please let me know if the software is still available for purchase.
Sincerely
Alex Howe"
I have not yet had a reply to this email.
I am very keen to see XXClone continue as it is a wonderful piece of software IMHO.
It is the only program I have come across that can perform a regular unattended scheduled incremental clone of a hard drive and its operating system in real time whilst the source drive is active, and make that clone bootable.
I had understood that Kan's son was possibly going to continue the business. If not, I would be very keen to see someone else pick up the reins.
Alternatively, If anyone knows of another program that can perform the same task, please let me know!
By the way, I have found a way of using the program to clone onto an external destination drive connected by USB and make THAT drive bootable, something that Kan said in his notes was not possible!
Please keep me informed.
Many thanks
Alex Howe
It surprises me that no one has written a comparable program.
I'm glad that there are people like you who are still trying to get something done about this situation. For me, the great value of XxClone over other methods of backup or transfer of a platform was that it used a pure copy process as opposed to some form of "mirroring" That's very important to me. I will continue to use Windows 7 at least until all support for it is gone and probably beyond that, and all I want is a copy of XxClone that will work. I wouldn't be at all concerned about updates. I do hope that this forum can now continue to function as a user support forum for those hoping for either access to some functional form of XxClone, i.e., one that won't fail to install or run due to "expiration",  or for a decent alternative.
Yes, I hope that this great little program is continued at some point... I just updated to windows 10 and my xxclone version (2.01) does not work. I don't think the last xxclone version 2.08 is working either with the latest win 10 builds. The program was perfect for my needs.
Hi Guys,
The closest I can find to XXClone is Casper. It works with Windows 10 and like XXClone, I can boot straight into the clones. I haven't investigated incremental backups yet.
Regards,
John
Thanks for your suggestion of Casper.  I'll look into it.
I haven't used XXClone for over 9  months, maybe because my free version stopped working???, or maybe because I'm not good at backing up (and I've been using Macrium once in a while.  It's really hard to understand at first, and second, and third.  It doesn't get easier to understand but I still do get better at doing what is required.)
But anyhow, why is not possible to do a full clone with XXClone Free, or anything else maybe as long as it's not compressed or something, and then do incremental backups to the clone using XXCopy?
I think Kan once hinted that this would work.  In fact he pretty much said it would work but he said it in passing when the topic of his post was something else.
Of course the XXCopy would have no exclusions, except maybe I'm wrong and it could have exclusions for the swapfile, the recycle file, maybe anything else that's not wanted and wouldn't be needed if one had to boot from the clone.   (Other than system files, is anything else required?   Although maybe it's better to have few exclusions for fear of excluding by accident something you actually want.)
So why wouldn't it work?
Bobby
