Naive and easily impressionable Vidya Bhalla would like her husband to be a dashing hero, one who is not afraid of anybody, one who can easily jump into a fire to rescue someone, one who is strong and romantic. She sees all of these qualities in Shiva Sathe, the son of Constable Purushottam Sathe, whose only dream is to see Shiva become a Police Inspector. Vidya informs her father, Prithviraj Bhalla, that she has found her dream man; the Bhallas and the Sathes meet and get the couple formally engaged.
Then Purushottam arrests the son of a MLA and as a result he is transferred to the notorious Kala Chowki Police Station in Bombay. Upon arrival, he finds out that the Inspector in charge of the Police Station, Saini, has been severely beaten-up by don Billa Jilani and is hospitalized. Purushottam arranges for his entire family to relocate.
The story takes a new twist. Shiva's brother-in-law approaches Prithviraj and informs him that Shiva has become an underworld don, after beating-up Billa Jilani, and now takes haftas and bribes. Prithviraj finds that Shiva has become a ruffian, and been arrested a number of times, much to the chagrin of his father. Prithviraj breaks off the alliance and informs Purushottam. Shortly thereafter, another fight breaks out and this time Shiva is arrested, held in a cell for several days, beaten up by his father and subsequently bailed out by a woman named Shanti. Eventually, Shiva kills Billa. The film ends with Purushottam declaring to Inspector Saini, that Shiva cannot be recommended to be an inspector, since in the eyes of the law he is a criminal. Shiva's photo is shown on the criminal's display board and credits roll.
Mukul Kesavan from the magazine Manushi lauded Gardish as "a powerful, affecting film"[3] The Indian Express praised the film's "script, vivid characters and powerful dialogues" and noted the actors' performances.[4] Anurag Mathur of The Sunday Telegraph was critical of the film, dismissing it as "not even a film, but a series of action sequences strung together by guest appearances", although he singled out Kapadia for "excelling" in her part.[5] India Today wrote, "Perhaps the best film to be churned out by the Hindi film factory this year. Jackie plays a would-be-inspector unwittingly embroiled in the world of crime. Puri is his helpless havildar father. The direction is deft and cinematography fabulous. Puri, after a long stint at uninteresting villain roles, gets to show his mettle. But the film belongs to the dazed and confused Jackie, who has done full justice to the role."[6]
Priyadarshan is an Indian film director and screenwriter. He has worked in the Hindi and Malayalam film industry for almost 40 years and has directed over 90 films.He completed his early education at Government Model School in Thiruvananthapuram. He later pursued his bachelor's degree from Mahatma Gandhi College and Master of Arts in Philosophy from University College Thiruvananthapuram. Priyadarshan was a voracious reader, which sparked his interest in writing and led him to write short plays and skits for All India Radio in college.He began his career in the Malayalam Film Industry in the early 1980s. He started his career as a director with Poochakkoru Mookkuthi (1984) in 1984. The film did surprisingly well and ran for almost 100 days in theatres across Kerala. He continued this slapstick comedy style and later made Oodarathuammava Aalariyam (1984) and Onnanam Kunnil Oradi Kunnil (1985).Later that year, he demonstrated versatility by directing the crime drama Parayanumvayya Parayathirikkanumvayya (1985). In the same year, Priyadarshan made his first film with Mohanlal titled Punnaram Cholli Cholli (1985).1988 was a landmark year in Priyadarshan's career. He directed Vellanakalude Naadu (1988) with Mohanlal in the lead role. It was a political satire crime film that revolved around the prevalent corruption in the country. The film was the biggest hit of that year and successfully ran for 200 days in theatres.Later that year, he directed and released Chithram (1988), his career's biggest hit. The film completed 366 days in the theatres and broke all the records of his previous collections.Later, these records were broken by his other film, Kilukkam (1991), released in 1991. Kilukkam starred Mohanlal, Revathi, and Jagathy Sreekumar in lead roles. Priyadarshan's next three releases - Abhimanyu (1991), Advaitham (1991), and Thenmavin Kombath (1994) were also commercially successful and ran for 100 days in the theatres.Priyadarshan actively worked in the Malayalam film industry for almost two decades (the 1980s and 1990s). After this, he took a short break from Malayalam cinema. He then started focusing on Hindi cinema. He worked as a director and screenwriter in Hindi cinema for nearly a decade.Priyadarshan debuted in Hindi cinema with Muskurahat (1992), a remake of his film Kilukkam. While the movie didn't perform well at the box office, he made a comeback with the action-crime film Gardish (1993), starring Jackie Shroff. The film was a massive hit, earning two Filmfare Awards for Best Action and Best Art Direction.In 2000, Priyadarshan directed the comedy movie Hera Pheri (2000) starring Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal. The movie is an Indian cult classic and is considered one of the best comedy films in the history of Hindi cinema. Priyadarshan's career in Bollywood took off after Hera Pheri (2000), and he went on to direct comedy blockbusters such as Hungama (2003), Garam Masala (2005), and Phir Hera Pheri (2006).In 2021, he directed the period drama Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea (2021), set in the 16th century. The film, starring Mohanlal, earned Priyadarshan the National Film Award for Best Feature Film.Priyadarshan has been awarded several state and national awards for his work in Hindi and Malayalam cinema. He won the Filmfare Award for Best Film (Critics) for Virasat (1997) in 1997 and the Filmfare Award for Best Director in 2009 for his movie Kanchivaram (2008). In addition to his cinema accolades, the then President of India also awarded Priyadarshan a Padma Shri in 2012 for his contribution to Indian cinema.
I wounder if some one can email/post meaning of "GARDISH", (Urdu word?)
I believe it means "Struggle" or "Sky". Is there any word for "sky"

their orbits (so what's new about stars being in their fixed paths to
whatever? :) ).......
But the phrase refers to bura waQt aana. After all astrology, nujoom and
such like were believed in during the ancient times And Ganesha says, even
today ;) . So your stars have moved into a bad position for you (?!) would
be more like it.Hence the song "Gardish meN ho taare, na ghabrana pyaare".
And using just the literal meaning of gardish, i.e. orbitting or as the
dictionary said "in revolution" (as in the revolution of the earth) it can be
found in "Awaara hooN (accordion piece)

I was under the impression"Gardish mein hein Taare" meant One's stars (as in horoscope) were in a
disturbed pattern/configuration.Sheeesh...And to think all these years, I must have used this line in my

Le film a remport deux Filmfare Awards - Meilleure direction artistique (Sabu Cyril (en)) et Meilleure action (Thyagarajan), et a t nomm dans les catgories Meilleur acteur (Shroff), Meilleur acteur dans un second rle (Amrish Puri) et Meilleure actrice dans un second rle (Dimple)[2].
Il marque les dbuts de l'acteur Mukesh Rishi (en) en tant qu'antagoniste. Ce film marque galement les dbuts Bollywood de l'actrice sud-indienne Aishwarya (en). Le film est un succs critique et commercial.
Nave et facilement impressionnable, Vidya Bhalla (Aishwarya (en)) aimerait que son mari soit un hros fringant, qui n'a peur de personne, qui peut facilement sauter dans un incendie pour sauver quelqu'un, qui est fort et romantique. Elle voit toutes ces qualits chez Shiva Sathe (Jackie Shroff), le fils de Havaldar Purshotam Sathe (Amrish Puri), dont le seul rve est de voir Shiva devenir inspecteur de police. Vidya informe son pre, Prithviraj, qu'elle a trouv l'homme de ses rves ; les familles Bhalla et Sathe se rencontrent et obtiennent des fianailles officielles.
L'histoire prend une nouvelle tournure. Le beau-frre de Shiva s'approche de Prithviraj Bhalla (Shammi Kapoor) et l'informe que Shiva est devenu un chef de la pgre, aprs avoir battu Billa Jilani, et qu'il accepte maintenant des pots-de-vin. Prithviraj dcouvre que Shiva est devenu un voyou, et qu'il a t arrt plusieurs reprises, au grand dam de son pre. Prithviraj rompt l'alliance et en informe Purshotam. Peu aprs, une nouvelle bagarre clate et cette fois-ci, Shiva est arrt, dtenu dans une cellule pendant plusieurs jours, battu par son pre puis libr sous caution par une femme nomme Shanti (Dimple Kapadia).Finalement, Shiva tue Billa. Le film se termine avec Purshotam qui dclare l'inspecteur Saini que Shiva ne peut tre recommand comme inspecteur, car aux yeux de la loi, il est un criminel. La photo de Shiva est affiche sur le tableau d'affichage du criminel, et le gnrique de fin est lanc.
