I'm not sure if Spain still uses this method or not! It would be cool
though! Although, the garroting method I'm thinking of is where a
thin wire is wrapped around the person's neck and pulled tight until
the person is strangled to death. I think too, that if the wire is
pulled tight enough, the person will be decapitated! Then again,
maybe this is more my secret desire! However, I believe you are
referring to the method where a band is placed around the person's
neck and a ram is pushed against the back of the neck. The ram is
designed to snap the neck as the force of the ram pushing against the
neck forces the person's throat against the band and the person is
strangled as the ram is snapping their neck. I can see that too,
especially since I know exactly how having my neck broken feels! I
broke my neck when I was 17 and I made yet another attempt to hang
myself! Painful? Yes! But it was rather sexy too!

Suicidal_Gurl, you are correct in that the ram method is designed to
snap the condemned victim's neck, hopefully before the person is
strangled from his (or her) throat being pushed against the band.
This is the "State Method" of execution by garrott. The wire method,
which I also am intrigued by, is usually performed as a "private"
execution, or for lack of a better way to refer to it, to murder
someone. Both equally effective, but in different ways! And yes, I
would prefer the wire method myself!
