Hey

I have problems to successful setup replication. Possible i need only
a little hint or a example config.

I try to setup a two host replication. If i start the directory
service i get the following error message:

FleaseMessage ( type=MSG_PREPARE cell=replication v=0
b=(1313413240853;1670198936)
lease=192.168.145.35:35678/1313413346150(Mon Aug 15 15:02:26 CEST
2011) prevb=(0;0) ts=1313413286150(Mon Aug 15 15:01:26 CEST 2011)
addr=computer1/192.168.145.35:35678) could not be send to
'computer2/192.168.145.36:35678', because IO_ERROR/POSIX_ERROR_NONE:
addr is of illegal length / java.net.UnknownHostException: addr is of
illegal length

This message is loggt after i started the service on both hosts. Befor
i started the secound service i get the (normal) message: Heartbeat
could not be send to RPC-Client for server
computer2/192.168.145.36:35678., because sending RPC failed: server
'computer2/192.168.145.36:35678' not reachable (blocked due to
reconnect timeout)

My config in server-repl-plugin/dir.properties is like this:
babudb.repl.localhost = computer1
babudb.repl.localport = 35678

babudb.repl.participant.0 = computer1
babudb.repl.participant.0.port = 35678
babudb.repl.participant.1 = computer2
babudb.repl.participant.1.port = 35678

This run this on debian squeeze. I have two virtual hosts with clean
minimal os installation. The same error message occur if i use ip
addresses instead of hostnames.

Have you any hint for me?

regards
ralph

Hi,

Sorry for the late reply.

The current XtreemFS 1.3 does only officially support the file
replication. However, you found out that this version also contains
code for file metadata (MRC) and DIR replication (realised by
replicating the underlying BabuDB database itself).

This code is not complete yet and there are a lot of changes to it
under way. Therefore, I do not recommend to test it yet. We're
currently working on the BabuDB replication so the complete
replication of all XtreemFS services will be available in the next
non-bugfix release. If you like, we can post a preview version of
this, once it's ready and we thoroughly tested it on our own, with
detailed installation instructions on the mailing list for further
testing.

Regards,
Michael
