Dear Colleagues,

We use XTF for PhiloBiblon. a database of the primary sources for the study of medieval Iberian literature

The primary site is at Berkeley with a secondary site at the U. Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona.

About once a quarter I upload standard XML files to both servers, where a chron program reindexes them.

Recently the automatic re-indexing has not worked, and even manual re-indexing hasn't worked.

The staff in Barcelona say that the program has not been modified nor have they had server problems.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Pes es muy raro. No veo ninguna modificación hecha o problema en el servidor.

Mi piedra de toque es el manid 6111 de BETA (manuscrito). Acabo de buscarlo ahora en la UPF, pero sin éxito.

De hecho no encuentro ningún manid de BETA posterior a "manid 6002" (manuscrito), añadido en BETA en enero de 2018. Esto implica que los procesos de indexación no han funcionado desde hace año y medio. Culpa mía, por no haber probado las búsquedas después de cargar nuevos datos.

"Mal de muchos, gozo es." En Berkeley también nos han fallado los índices y están buscando la causa. La perita Giulia Hill se ha jubilado y sus compañeros no son muy duchos ....

Benvolguts amics,

Acabo de subir ayer una nueva versión de las tres bases de datos de PhiloBiblon (BETA, BITECA, BITAGAP) al servidor de la UPF, pero los registros nuevos no se encuentran cuando hago una búsqueda.

Por ejemplo, no sale el manid 6111 de BETA, que debe estar.

¿Podríais hacer el favor de hacer correr el programa de indexación manualmente.

Por razones que desconozco, tampoco está funcionando el programa automático de indexación en el servidor de Berkeley. Los técnicos están trabajando en ello.

What sort of errors are you seeing when reindexing ? That should tell you something. 

If the problem is a bad malformed XML file, the indexer should give you an error message for that file,

But then continue to index the remainder. However, a “bad” filename might break earlier in the process,

In the docSelector that finds files newer than the index and checks file types to see which stylesheets to use. 

What makes a “bad” filename would depend on where in the process it breaks and whether it’s being properly 

Escaped. i.e. a bad character for XML may be different to a bad character for the OS. 

If you’re not getting ANY errors from the process, and it’s just not indexing anything, then maybe check the dates on those files and the index.

Those are the only things that come to mind without more info.
