I am familiar with Rowan Brownlee’s adaptation of XTF for the display of image files. I am writing to hopefully confirm a couple of assumptions and I apologize in advance if the answers are explicit in Rowan’s guide and I failed to see it.

  1. In order to make the image files accessible (able to be indexed and displayed), Rowan created a separate metadata record for each image. This is based on his list of directories:

data/sca/records

media/sca/images/powerpoint

media/sca/images/thumbs

media/sca/images/view

media/sca/images/zoom

media/sca/video

  1. The creation of separate metadata files is necessary because metadata embedded in image files, in whatever format (IPTC, Exif), is not separately indexable within XTF.

Am I correct that there is not a method to configure XTF to directly index embedded image metadata making it necessary to create stand-alone metadata files for all images? I’ve already created a local instance in which creation of the accompanying metadata files is chiefly automated based on export of the embedded metadata, but just wanted to make sure it was a necessary step at all.

Thanks,

John
