Android Studio "File cache conflict"

I'm using the Xtend plugin for Android Studio, and I've noticed that when I edit an Xtend file, the "File cache conflict" dialog keeps coming up as I type (see attached - the filename is redacted). Could this be because of the Xtend plugin updating the file system as I type? Is there any workaround for this? It makes Android Studio completely unusable.
