Hey Nick!

I would be interested in being a beta-tester for your program.  I also have experience as a copy-writer and I am a good editor and proof reader. I have a few teachers here at my shop who may also be interested in giving it a try.  My laptop is a PC. I have a Mac at home but don't have any instruments hooked to it.  All of the midi gear is at the shop. I could blast a note out on my facebook to our customers and songwriters that you are looking for beta testers if you like. (Let me know.)  I do know quite a few songwriters.  I might be able to help scare up a couple more testers.  Will you be offering an affilliate program?

I am looking for a select few programs to help us run a Music Producers Camp (for youth) as well as our Producer Labs (year round).  If the program works well and is intuitive enough for kids it might be something we could use in our labs to help teach songwriting and theory.  Potentially we could barter some proofreading and/or copy writing for some copies.

Don't forget  "bass"  is the instrument (or pitch range),
"base" is a foundation (as in a microphone stand base)!

Best of luck. It looks very exciting!

Sean,

Thanks for your feedback.

Proof reading
Thanks for the suggestion. Yeah, I will need to get the whole thing
proof read...eventually. I'll shoot you an email after the whole beta
is done.

More Beta Testers
Sure, send as many interested users as possible. The reality is that
very few beta testers will actually get around reporting bugs and
making suggestions. Having said that, I would like the beta test to
remain small enough to be manageable so I have time to address the
most important issues.

Affiliate Program
Mhmmm. I need to think about it. Email me directly once the beta is
done and we can discuss this. The only thing I don't want is Xsong
ending up on spammy link farms setup exclusively to collect affiliate
links. I *hate* spam.

MIDI
No need to have MIDI instruments hooked up. I wrote Xsong as a self-
contained songwriting workstation that loads fast and doesn't require
any fancy setup, scpecially when using a notebok. This is why I
rewrote this 3 times: to avoid becoming another DAW. For now, Xsong
does not answer to external MIDI device. I'll have this corrected in
version 1.1. It does read, write and playback MIDI files, just no live
keyboard, except for a virtual one onscreen (like GarageBand's
"musical typing").

Teaching Tool
The cool thing is that Xsong can help in understanding basic music
theory without having to read music. Then, seeing the instruments and
the circle of fifths animate as you play back your creation is quite
hoot. Music theory doesn't have to be boring.

-----

So in conclusion, version 1.0 will have some limitations, so that I
can push it out the door, but these will be addressed in future
releases.

I am happy to be a beta tester of this. Looks like a nice competitor
for SongFrame, I like what I see as far as the original design and
workflow is concerned. We need more quality song writing tools,
looking forward to the beta. Where will it be posted?

Alan,

I'm still working on it. I'm rewriting a major section having to do
with lyrics editing. It's not just a straight text editor, so it's
taking a little time. Hopefully will be done soon.

Thanks for your patience.
