Hello,

which phyton_version was the last one that Softimage still supports? or does that not matter,
Can I also install a current version.

actually it's more about the Gear addon, otherwise Softimage still runs well on win11

thanks

Walt

IIRC Softimage 2015 shipped with python 2.7.3 and pywin32 217
It must be a Python of the "2" generation, current "3" generation won't work...
But why not use the Python version that comes installed with Softimage 2015?

Gear is one of the most important things I use with Softimage, so are you saying it should still work.  I know there is the PYTHONPATH and an environmental path that makes GEAR work.  Should this still be the case with Windows 11.  Sorry this is not my expertise.

I just checked and gear should work with the Python preinstalled with Softimage 2015. The only thing you'll have to do manually is creating an environment variable called "PYTHONPATH" and point it to the "modules" folder of the gear plugin... (sorry, I own a Dutch Windows 10, but I assume this will look quite similar on Windows 11 in any language)

2.7.9 was the most current i was able to use with softimage
i think it's a bit faster than built-in python, and you can easily use external libraries like numpy etc. (couldn't install numpy on internal python, but i think it's 'theoretically' possible)
Anyway even with numpy python was 3 times slower than VBscript for my latest case ( couldn't get 'nurbssurface.EvaluatePosition' out of the loops )
p.s. sorry for accidentally replying to you personally first, Walter )

thank you for the quick reply.
you are right,
I wanted to install gear correctly in the first place because some gear-templates do not work, otherwise everything is fine,
and as it looks I do not need to install Pyhton.
The one with the Softimage installed Pyhton works.

nice that there are still softimage users

The version I am using here was of the original Gear, not the later "Gear_mc",
which is still available in the "local backup" of the Resources section over at si-community.com

I also stuck with the original Gear, I had some problems with the "mc" version, and I was happy enough with the original so stuck with it.
