Hey Gang,

Does anyone have any good lightning/arching electrical ICE examples you can link me to?  Maybe something you did that was cool or even something you saw?  Need to do some look dev for an upcoming job.

Thanks in advance,

and one of the crew a while ago posted some cool plasma,globe-style-lightning-arcs done with ICE for the file too.

should have read "plasma-globe-style-lightning-arcs done with ICE for the film too." Having a serious case of stupid-fingers today ;)

I vaguely remember seeing that in some clips.  Never saw the movie, just clips.  Guess I know what I'm doing this weekend.  Perfect stuff for what I needed to work off of.

Thanks!!

The day after tomorrow I will release a tool-set for non-simulated strand-dynamics with quite a few dedicated tools for the creation of lightning effects.
Maybe it will be helpful to you on that project.

That sounds great, Leonard. I'm looking forward to that.

Sounds great,

in the meantime, the lightning example referred to was by Vince Fortin, who posted a plasmaball ICE setup here a while back.
I’ve attached it here – hoping he wont mind, and hoping the list wont block the zip file
it relies on having 4 point clouds, and bezier strands being created out of corresponding points out of those 4 clouds: begin point and its handle, and end point and its handle.
what you do with those 4 points can be anything.
I’ve bastardized it into something else and added that too, called it plasmaball_redux.
I changed it to have strands appear/disappear rather than having a set amount, and creating bolts between generator and moving character, based on proximity, and with the handles kept perpendicular to the start and end points.

But Leonard will surely come up with something on another level.

Oh good, I have wanted to release the lightning nodes I built a while back, but have held off because I wasn't sure about ownership/rights since I made them during a project... I seem to be building a rather huge library of tools I can't legally share out, in fact... :/

I took some time and dug up a couple early electrical setups I had prior to what I built in production, so I can share 'em. :)

Since SI-community has been so active, I've uploaded them over there as a way of thanks for a good site. http://www.si-community.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=2153&start=0 Pretty basic but they should be of interest anyway, and were a good starting point for a lot of production effects I've done since. Enjoy.

These compounds are fantastic, Leonard. Thank you so much for releasing them. And such good timing too as I'm about to start on a long project that involves a lot a lightning/magical energy effects.

Cheers,

Anthony
