Afternoon everyone,

I am having to import a cad file, and it has been sent over to me as .stp file !

does anyone know a way of importing this into XSI ?

or should I go back to the client and request it in .dxf file and use Redmotion's dxf importer.

or is there a better way ?

thanks for your help

MMm XSI cannot use .stp files at all - the only options are to ask them
to supply either OBJ or DXF or for you to get hold of Deep Exploration.
DE as far as I know does support .stp so will allow you to fiddle around
exporting until you can find the most painless format!

Alex - I think it is a CAD format from the likes of Solid Imaging 3D -
seem to recall a CAD package called Solidworks or something like that!
May well be wrong tho' as it seems to be linked to all sorts of Cad
packages.

hi

Stp file is a CATIA file format, you can convert them with rhino if you have it.

good luck.

probably from a CAD/CAM/Nurbs program. It's normally a high
resolution poly model. It's used for rapid prototyping - 3d printing
- AFAIK.
... kinda silly XSI cant open it... I think it's very simple polygon
info.

cheers

Good morning all,

Stp file are not related to any CAD package, this is an Exchange format (it is called step and most cad package can read and write it). Best result I had is to import it in Okino polytrans save it in .obj and import it back in XSI. (.xsi format from Polytrans seem the way to go but all geometry came randomly placed when importing back to XSI). Rhino can be a good option too, but I cannot comment on it.

Hope that's help
Dan
