If the license server is running, then
- open a Softimage command prompt and run 'set adsk'
That will print the license server path.
Are you using the right license server name/ip address?
Can you ping it?
- check that the ports 2080 and 27000-27009 are not blocked
- check %TEMP%\SoftimageLicense.log
What are the most recent erros?
You can safely ignore this error: "the license cannot be
checked out because a PACKAGE component must be specified."
Note - I don't think the latest NLM (11.7) prints this error any more.

You guys are quick ;)
Lic server is running - stopped and started fine.
I can ping the license server alright.
Specified ports are open (from 2010 exceptions).
I am on Flex v11.6 it seems - does 11.7 come with 2011?
I can't find the %TEMP%\SoftimageLicense.log - even did a Win search.
LMTOOLS diagnostics say FLEXnet licensing error: -125,147
cheers

1) FLEXnet licensing error: -125,147 is usually the "package component" error, which you can ignore.
2) To find SoftimageLicense.log:
Start Notepad.
Click File > Open.
In the File Name box, type %TEMP% and press ENTER.
That will take you to your Temp folder, where you should find the SoftimageLicense.log file.
3) In LMTOOLS, what does Perform Status Enquiry output?
4) Open a Softimage command prompt and run these commands:
Set FLEXLM_DIANGOSTICS=3
xsi.exe
You should see some error dialog boxes when Softimage cannot get a license.
You can copy the error messages by clicking the dialog box and pressing CTRL+C.
