I would've thought Steven Caron from Blur would've brought this up
before me, but...

http://www.blur.com/blurbeta.html

Looks like some handy functions and libraries. :)

well remi mcgill, my supervisor posted it yesterday, but he has a new account so they moderate the first 5 posts. by the time it was up there i was in the rec room in the studio drunk and playing beer pong. so you will have to excuse my tardiness.

i would like to answer any questions for xsi/max users on the list. this package is practically every tool we are using in the studio up to certain date.

some xsi tool highlights are the blurxui ( use qt designer to design ppgs ), the caching tools ( point cache and transform caching between xsi and max ), rigbuilder, skinpanel, shapemorpher, shapeuibuilder, nulleditor, copycat, blurmix, clothchain the list goes on...

unfortunately we dont have the best documentation, we educate our artists/animators with in house video training and hands on training. so i will do my best to help anyone attempting to use the tools.  keep in mind we run a strict naming convention which will stop or change the way the tools work.

enjoy!

ps, gmail has been acting up a lot lately, its taken me 2 hrs to send this

You probably don't have python installed at the default location (c:\Python24). Just copy the files that the installer extracted there to your python installation directory.

No, already done that. These are .dlls...

It's a Python version issue. Uninstall Python 2.5 and install 2.4.
Unless there is a way to install both and select which one XSI uses by
default. It works then, however I still get a few missing .dll lines.

i will have to ask about this, we did some tests with the offsite installer, making sure it would work.

so you see the commands in the plugin manager? or are they disabled because of this error?

so lemme get this straight. this isn't working with python 2.5?

i will ask about this monday, there shouldn't be anything different between 2.4 and 2.5 that would cause issues for our code.

it looks like the application isn't being dispatched properly.

Don't you guys use the python dispatching hack?
Maybe the people having issues don't.

Wow - very cool to see such a bunch of tools released. Thanks a ton!
Will take me a while to dig through...
But should help my python/XSI-scripting-learning attempts a lot :-)

One question: Could you give a basic rundown on how the rig builder/skinning etc. pipeline in XSI is thought to be used?
I would love to check out your setup tools, but so far I only got the basic biped guide to show up and don't know exactly how to proceed and what to look for from there. I haven't found docs on that - may be me being blind ;-)

Thanks a lot to you and Blur!

Hi,

Flame chap here told me that they had an Motion Analyzer plugin to add post motion blur to things.
(I had suggested we try a Reelsmart Motion Blur plugin)

I assume the native plugin must create it's own motion vectors.
Has anyone heard of a way to render out a motion vector pass for the native Flame plugin to use?

Thanks,

Adam.

Do they have sample vectors?

Hey T, Hey Adam,

I think it's a 16 bit float motion vector format, called forward
flow\backward flow. I'd be interested to know about it as well,

I looked but could not find any info about the format online, we use
the real smart plug-in here in flame, does both 2D and LMdv2 motion vectors.

I'm pretty sure it's the algorithm they acquired from 5D when they went under.  The same tool exists in the Speed Six plug-ins for Fusion if I'm not mistaken.

Still, it's not as accurate as say the LMdv2 approach since it has to calculate the pixel flow as opposed to reading it from the renderer, so you are much better off sticking to Guy's shader.
