hey roman,

you can't search the closest strand position as these are no actual points in the scene, they are some kind of point attributes. You could create an intermediate pointcloud that has actual points on the strandpositions locations and later stick to them.

cheers

this will help sticking the object to the strand but not to find the desired closest position of that object on the strand.

Hi,
How I did it in the past is first create an array of all the strand position with "Per Point Array" compound
then use "Find closest in array" to get the closest point.

Have fun,

@Edy Susanto Lim:
Where did you get this "Per Point Array"-Node?
And what exactly does it do?

@Topic:
Here is a Solution, based on Edy Susanto Lim's suggestion:

It stores the Strand-Position at an initial State,
then finds the Index of the Closest in Array based on this Init-Position and uses that to select the right Value of the StrandArray.
At least in this example they are sticking nicely

Hi,
oops that's a custom node.. I use it so often that I thought it's a factory node. sorry about that
It basically create an object context giant array of each array member on each point.

Here's the other solution without the node.

Cheers,
edy

Hi Edy.
Sorry for my lack of response to your reply which I cannot find on my iPad. I have been ridiculously busy this last week and getting back to you was on my todo list, but I've hardly had time to sit down ( or stand up, rather)
Ive been talking about you and your work to others at the Imaginarium. We are just about to start gearing up for a couple of productions and I would love to get you on them. We have some meetings this week about how we go ahead on building a team. I will get back to you with any news.
please let me know if you get snapped up somewhere else, as I'm sure is likely.
Cheers
Paul

I think it's safe to say it was meant to Edy but was accidentally sent to the whole Softimage list.

Sorry about that mis post. It wasn't meant for the whole world. Anyway. Seeing as it's out there, I may as well take the opportunity to say that we're looking for creature td's and artists, so if anyone wants to send me a reel, then I'd be happy to take a look.
