That sounds made up, as no developers were let go in the Softimage
team in many years, and yes the dev team is larger than 5. (!)
There is always a little of movement in any team every year, people
trying new things, new people coming in. Obviously, it's more
noticeable when it's someone that interacts with the public. But the
vast majority of the dev team does post in forums or beta.

***Sigh of relief!***
Maybe this is an opportunity to say something like:
Congratulations and cheers to you guys at Softimage!!! Keep up the good
spirit,
your idealism and motivation!
After many years of using max and eventual routine, or worse, frustration
seeing
it go in the wrong direction, after the switch to SI enthusiasm returned.
Working with such a well-designed software is a joy in itself.
Don't stop in the middle, SI has such a potential.
I really appreciate being able to contact you via public forums or this
list,
something unheard of in the 3ds max world.
Best,
Eugen
|> Working with such a well-designed software is a joy in itself.
|> Don't stop in the middle, SI has such a potential.
That also means that we have to show AD that we support SI.
I know there are a lot of companies that have not yet switched to an AD reseller.
For a lot of customers the move to 7.5 was not worth it. (finding a new reseller, switching contracts, not knowing what will happen
at AD on one side and not that much new features on the other side) So they sticked to 7.0. (me too).
And because not many upgraded to 7.5, AD do not see the big user base that Softimage has. And based on the number of licenses, they
set their priorities in software.
But then again, I am getting to the point that AD should show that it wants to continue to support former Softimage license holders.
Upgrading from one major version 7.0 to the next 8.0 should be possible with any Software.
In my eyes if they miss that chance they loose a lot of potential customers that buy SI with support contract.
And if they plan it, they really really need to announce it now.
Perhaps even something in-between. A few bucks more per company as someone has to search through the old license database and
convert the licenses to AD licenses.
So I think to continue the good work on Softimage, both sides need to show a sign.
AD that it wants the old Softimage customers.
And the users that they still like and support this software.
But this time, AD has to do the first step, it is not possible vice versa.

I'd like to suggest that said sales/marketing/business folks address their client base and give us some assurance that 1) development of XSI will continue at a competitive pace, 2) that Autodesk is committed to supporting the XSI studios which rely on their product and will enable them to remain competitive and 3) that Autodesk is actively recruiting the best development talents in the industry and providing them with sufficient resources and incentives to stay.

What about Helge?
Use the product key 00000 and the serial number 000-0000000.
That will do a Typical Install with the licensing method set to Standalone (You have a Standalone license, right?).
To activate, you need your 2010 serial number? Do you have it?

I used the following product key:
591B1
And yes, I do have my 2010 serial number which I also input at the
time of install.
Both the product key that I am using and the serial number were
obtained from my Autodesk Subscription section.
I'm getting the feeling that something is not right ;-)
Let me know what you think.

591B1 installs the Network License version.
To activate a network license, go to http://registeronce.autodesk.com
If you have a Standalone license, you need to switch to the Standalone licensing method.
Reinstall, and use 590B1. Then you can choose Standalone licensing.
Network licenses cannot be activated at startup.
When you start Softimage and then click Activate, that is for Standalone licenses only.

i put a new win7 on C and installed softimage. strange enough there is
no license server in the download package anywhere. neither i could
find one on autodesks sites. no setup.doc or anything. the one that is
there after softimage install refers to a installer that doesnt
exist.
so i was glad that i had a copy of the 7.5 flexlm, which works now.
i could register 2010 and the lic is working as well now.
one thing though.. why cant i run 7.5 and 2010 at the same time???
if one is running the other one cant grab a interactive license...

Yeah, if you click the image it will download the mp4 to your temp folder and then play in the browser.
