Hey Gang,

Check this alpha release out! Please test it and get back to us about it.

Everyone should thank Jens Lindgren for getting a lot of work done in this release. It made it a lot easier for me to get started adding new features.

This is an alpha release, more stuff to come.

Great work Steven and Jens!

A note about Cryptomatte for Arnold 5, I made sure to keep all the SitoA-style name parsing alive so it should work just as well as it did in the Arnold 4 days.

There is some dormant stuff in there about how it handles ICE instancing, and what it considers to be the "object" (point cloud, instance master shape, instance-master shape per point ID) that may or may not still work. (It's not exposed in the UI anyway).

Unfortunately I have not had time to take a closer look yet. We have all but switched to Maya/Redshift here, so Sitoa does not have high priority, and I have Maya stuff to do :( . I do appreciate all efforts made to keep SI alive and kicking and the Sitoa work goes a long way :)

I look forward to giving it a spin though.

Great Tenshi! But 'AOV shaders' can be used for other things... if you want an 'AO pass' in your beauty, you can put it here instead of using store in channel nodes or aov_write_rgba.

Hey Lee,

This is something we fixed as it was a regression...

We haven't made a new release yet, but if you know how to compile from source you can get the latest from the dev branch and get this fix.

If there is interest we (Jens, Stefano) can try and target a new release...

Hey Pierre,

There isn't an exhaustive list of features but you can look at the github issues page to see what has been worked on or actively being worked on.

Regarding denoising... the Optix Denoiser does work (thanks to Jens) the 'noice' denoiser needs more testing and UI to help the workflow.

As I mentioned to Lee, we don't have a new pre-compiled release yet.

@Steven Caron, a little late here. I did not have time to try the First compiled file but now I have some time. Been testing the Alpha,  it´s normal is watermarked? And that ¨optix_denoiser¨ error...?

I know it´s a problem by my side but i just can´t compiled files in my computer, i tried everything, install everything necessary and nothing works. Maybe a format in the future could help but for the meantime if it´s not much to ask, can you guys release the new Alpha´s already compiled?

Thank you for keeping the XSI Beast alive!

hello tenshi-san,

The version of 5.1.0-alpha is watermarked if you don't have a license, that hasn't changed. Setup you license server?

The denoiser error is fixed in the dev branch.

We will let you guys know as soon as a release has been made.

Hi all!

I've been working pretty hard on SItoA since it moved to Github. The SItoA 5.1.0-alpha that we released a long time ago now is outdated, and Arnold 5.2 has come so we jumped straight to SItoA 5.2.0. (We decided that the first two version numbers of SItoA and Arnold should match so it's easier to know what's what.)

Here's the latest build of SItoA 5.2.0-beta (windows only): https://www.dropbox.com/s/rhnmodk3jcme0up/SItoA-5.2.0-beta-windows-2015.xsiaddon?dl=0

What's New (since 5.1.0-alpha):
  • Progressive Renderer
  • OptiX Denoiser
  • Round Corners shader
  • Color Managers (OCIO support!)
  • Sheen in standard_surface
  • Cryptomatte
Bugfixes:
  • Fog is added to the right shader stack
  • Projection Window and Rotoscope Zoom/Pan is now working again
If you want in depth info on what's new, the best way is to read the closed Pull Requests on Github: https://github.com/Autodesk/sitoa/pulls?q=is%3Apr+is%3Aclosed

We hope to release the final 5.2.0 of SItoA soon. If you find any issues, please report them.
Thanks!

/Jens

Thanks Steve - I'm not very adept at compiling etc, I think i failed dramatically last time!

I'll look at the 5.2 beta.

Just to let you know that I'm definitely in the 'thank you for keeping Arnold and Softimage alive - it's really appreciated and findamentally awesome!!!!' camp!

The longer we can keep SI alive with the latest Arnold to use, we're all happy :)

Hi guys!

Looking at the 5.2.0 beta, and i noticed(hope i'm wrong) that there's more grainy/dust on a simple render with default settings using a skydome light and standard_surface shader that in the past Sitoa's. I'm doing something wrong, or its something from the Beta that need to be fixed?

Hey Tenshi,

All I can say is compare it to other plugins that use Arnold Core 5.2.x (MtoA or C4DtoA). Jens' work shouldn't have changed anything about sampling quality.

From the SItoA 4.0 release notes:

  • Bump shaders: bump2d and bump3d now output a normal vector that can be linked to new normal parameters in ambocc, lambert, standard_surface and utility shaders. These bump shaders no longer function as passthrough shaders. The bump port of the Softimage material is not used anymore.

Hi Stephen, thanks for replying. I read those lines too, but... the Bump2D node connects to Standard Surface > Normal? I tried that and nothing, the texture becomes black. I tried every input from bump2D. Something like this?

Hi, i tried your example and it worked! Hmm i´m checking if there´s a problem with the Uv´s, i was using Uvlayout, it seems like the uv´s are wrong or something. I will do the Uv´s again and see if that work.

Ok, i was doing a few tests, and i make it work BUT i feel is not the same ¨bump¨ as in the past v4.1. I thought maybe was the scale of the object but nothing, as always maybe i´m doing something wrong, i began to using more decimals in the bump height parameters and i get better results. Using a better grayscale works better but not quite as before. It was easy to obtain better results before and i never got any ¨phong¨ error from Sitoa before, that error sometimes make my Softi to crash. For what i´m doing, it works ok. I will keep testing this Beta.

I just tried to use noicon.pic with bumb2d as Steven have done and it works without any problems.
I see that you have Normal X,Y,Z set to 4,4,4 in one of your screenshots. You need to leave the Normal X,Y,Z in bumb2d set to default value of 0,0,0. It's actually a bug that it's showing in the PPG and it should only be the port that should be used when mixing normals together.
