Using the anatomical axes tool I measure the relative motion of the
femur to the tibia in dogs. Based on my decision which segment I
define to be proximal or distal I get the relative 6 DOF motion of the
respective segment to the other one. However, I would like to know
which segment produces the motion in real life during walking. When
looking at the uploaded video clip
(Laica_TPLO_RightSide_4YPost_Axis.avi) one might say that it is the
distal femur which rotates during pawstrike, other might have the
impression that it is the tibia. Is there a way to objectively measure
which segment is the "moving" part of the joint?

Regards, Peter.

Hi Peter,
Using the anatomically defined axes you will obtain data of the two bones
relative to one another. But it is also easy to measure bone movement
relative to a coordinate system which is for example defined to lie in the
centre of your treadmill. This should then answer your question. We could
discuss possibilities when we meet.
I have now returned from Uruguay and we could meet rather sooner than later.
Regards, John
