During the sea days, and after 1PM, if the Craps table emptied, they would shut it down and reassign dealers. Each time I came up to the closed Craps to ask when it would reopen, they said 5 min and reshuffled idle card dealers over to open it up. They would start with only one side, with a Stickman and single Dealer and part time Boxman. Once they only had 1 Dealer, so the Pit Boss played Dealer until someone replaced them. I've been on Allure several times and give their staff an A+ on their ability to shuffle "well cross trained" dealers every time I'm there.

When I first sailed, I was a bit disappointed that Royal Craps only offers a meager Single Odds. Peel back the onion and SINGLE ODDS is 0.85% house edge and still a GREAT bet. I only lost a quarter of a percent by not having 3/4/5.

Thanks for the detailed info, Crapster! I play craps exclusively and am disappointed to hear about the $10 minimum and only offering single free odds. We're taking our first ever cruise on Royal this September - I guess I won't be playing. The good news is that I won't have to risk my normal craps bankroll. ?

Certainty no reason not to play. Without getting into the the dark side, the PASS LINE with no ODDS is one of the best bets in a casino at 1.41%. With SINGLE ODDS it's below 1 percent at 0.85%. So, PLAY and have FUN! Ship Craps is GREAT because you end up playing with a handful of regulars. SINGLE ODDS should not be a deal breaker.

It definitely IS a deal breaker for me when I'm risking double what I normally would on the original even-money pass/don't pass bet ($10 versus $5). The odds bet (taking or laying) is the only bet in the casino that pays true odds and has zero house edge (by itself). I choose to play where I can maximize that particular bet.

Did all these 5000 points come from craps? That is not an easy task. I play around the same as you and they hardly give me anything. I bet the don'ts most of the time and the does when the table warms up. So I usually win. However, I don't press like you do, maybe thats the secret. I talked to the host and craps pays the worst comps in the casino, BJ and roulette pay alot more and I have found this to be the case.

The dynamics of a casino has changed so much over the years. I am originally from Vegas and my father was in casino management (over 50 years) from the Frank Rosenthal days. My father used to say that in order for a casino to be profitable, it needs 2 Baccarat tables and at least 1 craps table. All other table games are unnecessary. Keep in mind that was early 70's to mid-80s perspective.

Now, penny slots are huge and generate unbelievable revenue. Black Jack is a funny game because at first blush, the math tells you its the least amount of risk for the player. But black jack tables often charge a commission and have a house edge. Meaning, over time, the casino makes money. Because the initial math makes the game attractive to players, they tend to play longer and then father time kicks their asses.

Absolutely! That is why (especially on cruises) the craps table is smack dab in the middle if not front of the casino. Nothing beats the excitement level of a craps table...until I do the walk of shame with pockets inside out.

It's understandable that they took the Craps table off the ship if it's cruising Australia. There are VERY few Craps tables in Australian casinos, with just one or two in the larger ones and none at all in the smaller casinos. It's just not a game played by Aussies, mainly due to very few people understand it. Asian casinos are similar...

I kind of figured that might be the case from how the Casino Host referred to sailing out of Australia. Will also have to keep that in mind as the wife would like to hit some of the Asian itineraries. Thanks..

Craps is just not viable for Asian/Australian casinos given it takes 4 dealers (3 + 1 on break) and a Supervisor to run the game and generally sits in a quiet corner of the casino with no customers because few know how to play it. That's a shame because as noted above, it's a game which can get the crowd going and keep them entertained.

Before retiring back to Australia just over 12 months ago I worked at Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore which was comfortably inside the worlds Top 10 casinos based on GGR and we had a grand total of ZERO craps tables in the whole casino...

Since when? I was on Grandeur last September and there was a craps table. I remember it extremely well because a craps player was shouting, screaming, getting physical with the pit boss, and refusing to leave. He was cheating by sliding dice and told he was not welcome in the casino anymore. Only time I have personally seen security have to physically detain anyone on a cruise.

HOW TO PLAY
To begin the game, players make a wager on Player, Dealer or Tie. Optional side bets include the Dragon 7 and the Panda 8. Two cards are dealt to the Player and Banker alternately, starting with the Player. If either hand totals 8 or 9 on the initial deal no further cards are drawn. If neither Player nor Banker has an 8 or a 9, a third card may be required.

After the cards have been drawn the hand with the point total closest to 9 wins, except if the winning Bank hand is a Dragon. If the Banker hand is a Dragon (three-card total of 7) the Banker hand is a push, the Player and Tie hands lose and the Dragon 7 bet wins.

POT OF GOLD SIDE BET
Players can choose to bet on the Pot of Gold Side Bet. If played, they will receive a gold coin for each free split and/or free double they accumulate on their hand.
