Dear all,
Sorry about the last mail. I am writing you this mail to solicit information/help from you. I recently met a brave blind girl who has been staying in a working women's hostel for the past 4 years on her own.

This girl Neha, is an MA in Sociology from Delhi University. And has had a good academic track record. When she was in 10th standard she contracted glaucoma, which rendered her blind by the time she entered first year college in 2003. Daughter of middle class parents she kept on her struggle. With the help of her college, friends and her family she studied in a regular college, sourced braille books and went on to do her masters. However, she has not got a job in keeping with her qualifications. She's working with a blood bank. Intact such is get dedication that she travels around 4-5 km every day (one side) by bus every day to reach her office. Imagine how difficult it is for her, every day. But this struggle has not repressed her spirit. This ever smiling girl keeps working hard. She's so dedicated that she was awarded best employee by the blood bank. (And mind you she works with people like you and me, physically fit.)

The purpose of sharing this story is to ask you if you know some institution where she can find useful work. And things she can do to make her life better.
Any help from your end would be highly appreciated.

Many thanks and regards,
Kavita Jitani,

Dear Counselors ,

Apologies for Spamming your inbox  !!! .

Gentle reminder to all for the below four question ,it has been long pending , they are all interesting question and needs your guidance . Till now I got only one reply from Ullas for the second question

<<
Suggestion:
I must congratulate you for showing an early interest in a key government department. India is one of the few countries which has a dedicated Forest Service at National and State Levels. Apart from IAS and IPS, Indian Forest Service(IFS) is the only All-India Service, which means that it is regulated by important Constitutional provisions and special Parliamentary Acts.

To get into the Forest Service, you can appear for Indian Forest Service Exam conducted by UPSC every year. By clearing this National Level Exam, you can directly get posted as Assistant Conservator of Forests. You are allotted a specific cadre (state or gorup of states) and you have to serve mostly in your designated region.
Similarly, you can appear at State-Level Forest Service exam conducted by Assam Public Service Commission and other state public service commissions. Forest department recruits people from both central and state level exams.

Educational Qualification - Exams at both Central and State levels have almost similar pattern.
Key Requirement for IFS is a Bachelor’s degree with at least one of the subjects namely, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or Forestry or Engineering of a recognised university or equivalent. Age Limit is 21-30 years as on 1st July of the year of exam.

There is first a written exam, subjective in nature, which tests your English, GK and any two subjects that you can choose from a set of 14 which includes Science Subjects like Phy, Chem, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics, Statistics or Engineering Subjects Mechanical and Chemical. You can also take Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Geology, Forestry etc.
This is followed by a personality test (Interview). While the details of the exam might slightly differbetween centre and states, the overall requirement and design remains the same.

Since you are yet to enter graduation, your focus right now should be on getting a good knowledge in your subjects and on acquiring a good General Knowledge and Language especially English.
General Knowledge inlcudes India's history, geography, polity and current happenings. You must choose your graduation subjects carefully, keeping in mind that you might want to appear for Forest Service Exam with those subjects and you must prepare them really well because maximum credit is given to the subjective exam you will be taking. You can also check out old question papers of these exams which are available in all major book stores or you can check IFS papers online at the UPSC website <upsc.gov.in>.
Please ensure that you have a good general awareness, read newspapers regularly and keep yourself updated with key events.
If you know your subjects, your society and your country very well, you definitely deserve to join the prestigious service that you aspire for. All The Very Best !

Kavita- thanks for sharing this.  I will circulate in my circle. If somebody wants to contact the girl, may I know any contact details, or would you like to become the POC?
