XNAT 1.9.2 is a major version release, working in concert with releases of Container Service 3.7.0 and Batch Launch Plugin 0.8.0 to offer significant improvements in DICOM anonymization and import performance, container management and orchestration, and managing batch executions on systems with large amounts of data and/or processing commands enabled.
Key Updates:
Significant improvement in DICOM anonymization performance, fixing a regression introduced in XNAT 1.8.10 and surpassing previous benchmarks in speed
Role-based access to plugin administration without requiring site administration permissions
Custom labeling on compressed uploads and other UI improvements
Elimination of a notorious and intermittent XFT initialization bug and other backend improvements
The full list of improvements and bugfixes is listed in the XNAT 1.9.2 Release Notes.
XNAT 1.8.10.5 is a hotfix release that addresses a significant performance degradation that was uncovered during the development of XNAT 1.9.2. Knowing that much of the XNAT community is still running production systems on the XNAT 1.8.10.x line, we decided to put this remedy out on that development line.
The changes in XNAT 1.8.10.5 are strictly for backend performance and do not affect the UI, nor do they impact plugin compatibility.
Key Updates:
Apply the same improvements in DICOM anonymization performance as in XNAT 1.9.2
Elimination of a notorious and intermittent XFT initialization bug and other backend improvements
The full list of improvements and bugfixes is listed in the XNAT 1.8.10.5 Release Notes.

Note for those Upgrading from XNAT 1.8.x:
Updating to XNAT 1.9.x from XNAT 1.8.x is largely the same process as before. However, due to the number of changes affecting plugins, we strongly urge you to follow all recommended safeguards, including backing up your data and performing the update in a test system with thorough QA before deploying to production.
You can find our updated documentation on upgrading XNAT here: How To Upgrade XNAT.
You should also review our guidance for required plugin updates in the XNAT 1.9.0 Release Notes.
The following plugins have been released in concert with XNAT 1.9.2.
Added support for tracking labels on containers for resource usage tracking by project, etc
Added a Container Manager role that does not require site administration privileges
Multiple improvements to Orchestrations, including a “halt on failure” configuration option
Multiple bugfixes related to thread management, containers in “waiting” state, and passing through Docker Swarm constraints in event-launched containers
CS 3.7.1 includes a hotfix to remove invalid characters from Kubernetes command launches
For full details, please see the Container Service changelog, or read updated Container Service Plugin documentation.
Multiple improvements and bugfixes in Processing Dashboard, particularly when handling large numbers of available commands
Improved speed of Recent Data Activity table on site home page
For full details, please see the Batch Launch Plugin changelog, or read updated Batch Launch Plugin documentation.
This plugin was released during the development of XNAT 1.9.2, but is compatible with XNAT versions as far back as 1.8.4.
For load-balanced XNAT systems, provide real-time updating of events that affect user permissions.
For full details, please see Distributed Events Plugin documentation.
