XNAT 1.9.2 is Now Available

XNAT 1.9.2 is a major version release, working in concert with releases of Container Service 3.7.0 and Batch Launch Plugin 0.8.0 to offer significant improvements in DICOM anonymization and import performance, container management and orchestration, and managing batch executions on systems with large amounts of data and/or processing commands enabled.

Key Updates:

  • Significant improvement in DICOM anonymization performance, fixing a regression introduced in XNAT 1.8.10 and surpassing previous benchmarks in speed

  • Role-based access to plugin administration without requiring site administration permissions

  • Custom labeling on compressed uploads and other UI improvements

  • Elimination of a notorious and intermittent XFT initialization bug and other backend improvements

The full list of improvements and bugfixes is listed in the XNAT 1.9.2 Release Notes.

XNAT 1.8.10.5 Is Also Available

XNAT 1.8.10.5 is a hotfix release that addresses a significant performance degradation that was uncovered during the development of XNAT 1.9.2. Knowing that much of the XNAT community is still running production systems on the XNAT 1.8.10.x line, we decided to put this remedy out on that development line.

The changes in XNAT 1.8.10.5 are strictly for backend performance and do not affect the UI, nor do they impact plugin compatibility.

Key Updates:

  • Apply the same improvements in DICOM anonymization performance as in XNAT 1.9.2

  • Elimination of a notorious and intermittent XFT initialization bug and other backend improvements

The full list of improvements and bugfixes is listed in the XNAT 1.8.10.5 Release Notes.

The latest versions of XNAT and its plugins can be found here: www.xnat.org/download

Note for those Upgrading from XNAT 1.8.x:

Updating to XNAT 1.9.x from XNAT 1.8.x is largely the same process as before. However, due to the number of changes affecting plugins, we strongly urge you to follow all recommended safeguards, including backing up your data and performing the update in a test system with thorough QA before deploying to production.

You can find our updated documentation on upgrading XNAT here: How To Upgrade XNAT.

You should also review our guidance for required plugin updates in the XNAT 1.9.0 Release Notes.

Hi Will,

Thank you for support here.

I'm wondering if there's an update on rolling out the JDK21 on the production release.

Regards,

Production on Java 21 is now our primary development effort on the open-source side. We still don't have a solid schedule for this but are aiming to release no later than the end of October, but hopefully before then. We have the full stack building cleanly and a large number of plugins as well and are starting the process of validating all core functionality. As soon as we have a quality release candidate we'll make it available for early testing and feedback.
