meaning of "Allow Nonuser Subscribers"

In Site Administration > Notifications, the descriptive text for "Allow Nonuser Subscribers" says:

"Indicates whether this site should restrict email addresses for site notifications to addresses that are associated with valid active users of the XNAT installation. If turned on, the site is more secure from exploitation as a spam relay, but restricts the addresses that can be used when alerting administrators to system events."

Maybe I'm misunderstanding something, because this seems exactly backwards to me.  I think maybe the word 'on' here is supposed to be 'off'?

Either way, to avoid the confusion of double negatives, the text should be rewritten to match the sense of the switch, or vice versa - either both should be about 'restrict', or both should be about 'allow'.

Hi Daniel,

I don't think there's anything you're misunderstanding here (more double negatives 🙂). It's both worded confusingly and is incorrect (I'm 99% sure it should indeed say "off"). I've added a ticket for us to fix this here (https://issues.xnat.org/browse/XNAT-6737), although we're likely too far along in finalizing thoughts for the next release for us to squeeze it into 1.8.1.
