Hi all.
Thank you for all your great work on the XNAT OHIF viewer which is becoming a key component in our research workflow.

We have been using the 3D MPR mode on Accelerated Sagittal MPRAGE acquisitions in order to view coronal, axial and sagittal slices. This has been working nicely so far.

We notice that for acquisitions from a partner site however  the data is being sent as a multi-frame DICOM dataset and the 3D MPR mode is not available.

I am wondering if there is a way around this issue besides asking them to resend the data in standard format? Just out of curiosity is multiframe format what is also referred to as enhanced DICOM?

I am new to the DICOM standards. A quick peruse suggests that multiframe it is a more compact representation of the data (where header info is sent once). Is this the way that DICOMs are expected to be shared in the future? Perhaps this lack of support for multiframe data is a limitation of the core OHIF viewer itself and not something that can be resolved within the XNAT OHIF Plugin itself?

Thanks for any help, advice and suggestions.
Best
Chidi

Hi all,
I am pushing this query again as we have just upgraded our siemens software to XA30 and are sending all our dicoms into the XNAT in "enhanced mode" rather than interoperability mode. This is a far more efficient and network-friendly way to transfer and store data for our XNAT use. In interoperability mode we were getting close to 10,000 files for a typical DWI transfer and enhanced mode has brought it down to 1 file per volume (roughly 140 files in our case). We are definitely happy with this approach.

The one down side to this is we seem to have lost our ability to use the 3D MPR mode on any of our scans which was a really useful tool for us. We are on XNAT 1.8.10.1 and are using the XNAT OHIF Plugin 3.7.0

Is this something that is technically possible to address with the plugin or are there limitations to the framework that do not make this possible?

Thank you so much
Chidi

Hi Chidi,

We are working on various aspects related to multiframe files for the next release of the viewer. I can't promise a fix for this, but we will certainly take a look.

  Best wishes,

Simon
