Hi All,

I had a problem with Russian characters skewing in InDesign. They were fine on the original XLSX file and also on the CSV (saved via Excel Mac) but were skewed when connected to my InDesign document via uDirect.
In case anybody else comes across the same issue here's the solution that worked for me using OpenOffice on the Mac (never tested it on a PC):
  • Open the .xlsx file with OpenOffice
  • Go to File/Save As
  • Choose CSV
  • Check "Edit Filter Settings"
  • Click "Keep Current Format"
  • Here's the important bit - Select "Unicode" from the Character Set dropdown (do not choose UTF7, UTF8 or UTF16, none of these worked)
  • Click OK twice

This was driving me slightly mad so hope it helps someone out....

Gar.
