How to split jobs when printing from within InDesign using XMPIE

Hi group,

I have some large jobs that I'd like to dynamically print from
InDesign using XMPIE, but our production printer coughs if I send more
than 1000 pages at a time - is there a way to dynamically print the
document and have it automatically split into 1000 page chunks? We are
running XMPIE from a couple desktops, but don't have an XMPIE server
in place as of yet.

uDirect Standard and uDirect Studio do not offer a automated mechanism
for splitting.

With uDirect Premier and uPlan, splitting is certainly easier, thanks
to SQL query-based filters, even though launching the production
remains a manual task.

PersonalEffect, the server-based XMPie solution, is the only one
allowing a fully automated split.

   Why don't you just split your database?  I think it would be the easiest method for you to do it.

Thank you for the information Bill. Yannick, the reason I don't split
the database is because that would still cause me to manually start
the processing for each different section, which is what I'm trying to
avoid.

The best way is to process your proofs as batch using batch proofs in
uPlan. Then you can process off as many PC as you want

If you output to pdf use a pdf splitter for example by use of a hot
folder and settings file it will Create batches, stating the 1000
records i presume you use xerox docusp rip? Hope this helps. Otherwise
try increasing the cache on the rip...(if its a docusp :-)
