Hello everybody,
at our company we are using MySQL as our database where campaign data
is stored and where all data harvested on landing pages is written to.
MS SQL Server 2005 express edition is also installed to work with
uproduce's own databases and where the Marketing Console writes its
databases. Has somebody successfully managed such a uproduce
installation? Add the RURL Wizard to it, how about that?

Our experience is that mysql is reached from uproduce via ODBC and a
connection string and we can read and write to ADORS at will. We use
mysql version 5.1.31. Plan file and database access work fine as does
campaign logic and function.

But not everything is cool, currently we face trouble with the
Marketing Console which does not report anything. The ICP port does
not appear in any web report selector box. We don't know why, support
is helping with that, but the case is already open for 40 days and no
solution. (Has anybody else had such a bad support experience before
me?)

The RURL wizard claims that it works only with server based databases
like MySQL. Seems to me that the wizard does not like connection
strings.

Any comments? I would love to hear about your experiences in similar
set-ups.

Hi there,

In early 2008 I wrote this article: http://bit.ly/RgUAD

The ODBC connector has problems and is far from ideal IMHO; using
OLEDB is far more reliable. What version of RURL wizard are you on?
1.0 had a limited set of databases, but I think that 1.5 has a
connection string option...

Cheers, Tim

Thanks Timothy,

We have uProduce v4.5.2 build 3753, Marketing Console v1.5 build 4553
and RURL Wizard v1.0 build 3753.
Are you saying there is a version 1.5 for RURL Wizard? Would it work
with our uProduce version?
Have an nice day

RURL Wizard "version 1.5" actual version number is currenly 4.6.1,
Build 4173.

It was shipped with uProduce same version same build, so if I were
you, I would double check with XMPie support that mixing these various
versions will not make a m€ss.

I rapidly tested both ODBC>MySQL and Cherry Software (which I remember
Tim is in love with) with RURL Wiz 4.6.1: both were visible from the
RURL Wizard ... wizard.

Bill is right in what he says - 1.5 RURL Wizard is indeed part of the
4.6.1 suite. However, you *cannot* mix RURL wizard 1.5 with a 4.5.2
uProduce; its not possible (i've tried). Essentially, 1.5 RURL wizard
uses API features that are not present in 4.5.2.

@Bill - im not sure that im in love with the cherry driver per-say,
but I am in love with performant solutions and would choose OLEDB over
ODBC any day of the week ;-) The blog post I wrote was actually as a
result of running a mysql 5 cluster in production with a uProduce
running an XM campaign... ODBC connected MySQL is perfectly fine for
print, but it is unacceptable for an XM campaign.

Cheers, Tim
