We process files through uproduce and break them out by 500 records
per batch. On some jobs we are getting the following error message
when doing multiple pdf's. However if I select 500 records at time I
can process easily....this just takes a long time if you have 5 or 6k
records. Has anyone seen this message....

PDF creation failed.

What version of uProduce are you using?

If the Google Group did not harm your original data, it seems that the
"²" character (certainly from a font file or from an image) is the
problem.

Have you tried to produce PostScript instead of PDF, then to distill
the target PostScript?

How large is the PS file you generated? I have seen a similar error with
files over 1GB in size.

The issue is that XMpie servers can only create pdfs under 2gigs and this applies to Distiller as well.
You might want to get hold of your xmpie support and ask for the documentation "VDP Design and Production User Guide" as it shows why and how to overcome the problems

"It is also worth noting at this point, that you must limit the size of the output file
to be under 2GB. (Remember also with PDF output of more than 5 records,
PostScript is first created and then distilled. So the maximum PostScript file
which can be processed is 2GB.)"

Sylvia,
Can you confirm that your PostScript file is that big?
Can you say if it is smaller, when you generate the output "manually"?
(I mean: by splitting the data source by 500 recipients without the
uProduce automated splitter?)
