I have some static text with bullets styled with a character style and I have some dynamic text that uses 2 GREP styles to hide (no color) an tilde and to make everything before the tilde bold.

Every time I flip a record in uCreate I loose both style references. XMPie just "deletes" the grep styles and reverts the bullets to a generic character.

I am working in XMPie 6.6.2 with InDesign CS6. Anyone come across this before?

thanks

Assuming that you are using just a plain Text ADOR (not a Text File ADOR) and that the value is just plain text (not Adobe Tagged Text) then the variable text should take on the paragraph style that you apply in InDesign (including the grep styles).

If you are using Text File ADOR or AITT in Text ADOR, then the style could be re-defined by the AITT.

Bob, have you got suppress trailing spaces turned on for this text box? We found early on using XMPie v1.x that if you suppressed an ADOR formatted with a paragraph style the paragraph below that moved up would pick up the suppressed style and retain it when the suppressed paragraph was revealed.

So now use character styles and program all the line breaks in manually if there are different styles. We use full empty paragraphs as spacers and can use these to hold ADORs with different styles (but not bullets sadly as you get a visible bullet on the empty para)

Unsure if this is still an issue as haven't retested for 6 years due to the amount of time lost initially diagnosing and working around

"Should" is the operative word. It's just dropping\deleting\forgetting the bullets and the GREP styles whenever I move from one record to the next.

It was working fine when I initially created the file but somewhere in the editing process it stopped working.

The paragraph style still work even after the xmpie text "ignores" it, and I can update the paragraph style from that text and everything is fine, until the next record. .

I opened another job and it doesn't seem to have issues with it's GREP styles. Not a good sign. . .

Thanks George,

This text is in a dynamically generated table, so it's not pulling the paragraph style from the text below. I even have the text style in blank cells below but it didn't help.

In random text boxes the paragraph styles just fail.

The text I am formatting happens to be an address that we parse and break with \n line breaks. It would have been better to get the address in separate fields but the client wasn't in to that.

I usually have no trouble with basic InDesign functionality, such as paragraph styles and do fun stuff with GREP styles but this is really got me stumped.

thanks,
Bob
