Afternoon,

I was interested to know who is actually using a DAM within their XMPie workflows, either integrated with the asset provider plugin or "disconnected" where uProduce just reads from the FS.

Interested to hear the experiences of others :-)

Cheers, Tim

We're also interested in this topic. I hate to resurrect such an old post, but I'm surprised that nobody replied. Maybe no one is actually using a DAM system with XMPie?

Our clients want to maintain their own photo/logo libraries via web uploads, and then we need to dynamically pull those into XMPie based on userID, type, store IDs, etc. We could write our own web apps to handle the input and loading of the graphics, but it may make more send to have a commercial DAM product handle the front end. Either way, we'd need to have XMPie access the library based on criteria available within uStore.

I see that there is a XMPie plugin called PBContentConnect that alleges to work with a couple DAM systems. But it may be more document-centric in focus. If anyone can offer experience in using this, it would be interesting.

These guys - http://northmann.com/ - have a nice integration with
XMPie.

XMPie provide Asset Source Plug-in mechanism for uProduce that allow
to extend assets on uProduce.
Several integrators like PB System developed integration using this
mechanism , if I remember correctly PB Connector supports Open Text’s
Artesia or Xerox’s DocuShare solutions and for x amount they can
extend it to other systems.
Once connector is placed (if connector implemented all methods )
uStore should display its assets with no problem using default uStore
Plugins .
Since uStore offers Dial User Plug-in mechanism it is also possible to
build more advanced plug-in that will allow more tight integration
with particular asset management. like allow serach for "white
cats" ... or upload asset directly to the asset management via
uStore ...

Northman is one of the vendors that I'm aware that wrote plug-in to
uProduce , but I can't give any opinion on their DAM .

There are several other nice products out there that also have a very
tight integration with inDesign and Photoshop so I'd check them as
well like : Celum http://www.celum.com/

Bottom line connection to an asset management can be not that pricy ,
but Asset Management itself are usually very pricy , so I'd also check
some open source as well.

For more information you can contact me directly.
Igor.
