Thanks for the upgrade. Seriously, in a time when more and more ISPs
are cutting Usenet completely I really appreciate that my ISP is
actually upgrading the part of Usenet that I personally care about.
XMission.com is the best ISP on the planet, bar none.

I just had a very long and often heated discussion with a rep from
both of the huge monsters in the area "Qwest" and "Comcast" which
brings this home and fries it up in a pan...
The Comcast rep finally had the gall to ask me why I still payed for
Xmission (since 1993) and why as part of my cost cutting that WOULD
NOT be going while the noternet and mega-uber-ultra-ainternet and
phone services [cough] from both would NOT be on the table :)
She hung up on me when I answered "because for 15 years Xmission HAS
NEVER let me down even when I have been a few days late with my bill,
and Comcast lets me down daily"
and while I am still in rant mode... why is it that Qwest has fiber to
my house for their ultra highspeed [cough] ainternet and Utopia or
Xmission cant get anything to me but dialup and 1/4 speed DSL (over
the regular ainternet lines)?
Point to Qwest though, their ainternet is better than Comcast's
noternet LOL

Qwest will not allow 3rd party ISPs to participate on their FTTN (fiber to the
node) product. In spite of the fact that we have brought them millions in
revenue on their ADSL product, the powers that be at Qwest think a monopoly is
a good thing to return to.
If it is UTOPIA, which isn't Qwest, but municipally supported fiber to the
premises, we can provide XMission service over that. However, you have to be
in one of the participating cities, and you need to be in an installed
footprint. Thanks to Qwest/Comcast lawsuits and a bit of mismanagement,
UTOPIA is expanding at a snail's pace these days because they are low on cash.

I figured it had to be golden toilet seat stupidity somewhere... they
can have their golden thrones, I want my world back LOL.

Participating city, and a block away in the enclosed little rich
neighborhood there is Utopia... in our trailer park there is not...
I even offered to string the whatever myself the >50 <100 yards it
needs to go to put us east siders on Utopia but they declined.
Sadly more of those golden thrones with the hole in the center at work
selling air for double the cost of ice cubes in Panama and calling it
"chilled" for another 1000% markup.
Sue the competition for everything they have, offer a huge discount to
those left without services in the aftermath, then fail to upgrade
your own infrastructure to keep up with the times (gotta have more of
those golden seats) and wonder why in a few years those you "saved"
from the company you put out of business are now hating on you and
would rather go back to 30 year old technology than pay you for no
service or service so bad that even the DMV can stand proud next to it
on a really bad last day of the month.
...
...
I will stop ranting now before I unbuckle something important LOL
