Centurylink DNS slow?

I have a linux firewall running dnsmasq in front of my home network.
Every since Centurylink replaced Qwest, it seems like DNS is extremely
slow much of the time.
Anyone else notice this?
I realize my dnsmasq.conf & resolver config might be some of the
problem. But so far none of my experimentation has rendered a faster
name lookup.
