I normally read and send mail from the shell, using the MH-E package
in GNU emacs. As of today, when I try to send mail, even to myself, I
get an error message:
jjanney at xmission.com: loses; [USER] 550 Administrative prohibition
post: 1 addressee undeliverable
send: message not delivered to anyone
I can dig into this and try to figure out what's going on, but if
anyone can point me in the right general direction it would be greatly
appreciated.

Interestingly enough, if I send mail directly from the shell, e.g.
shell> mail jja...@xmission.com
Subject: test
test test
^D
it works, that is the message shows up in my inbox. Hmm.

There was a problem with the mta introduced on the day you posted
this, which was fixed the following morning. SMTP to localhost and
sending messages directly via sendmail was fine, but SMTP to
shell.xmission.com and sendmail invoked with -bs (what pine uses) were
both broken.
If you're still having any problems, of course, let me know.
Thanks.
