On the whole I am satisfied with the XMind interface though I have a
specific complaint.

I tend to be verbose and often create word heavy topics - lots of
text. Since XMind lacks an option to wrap text within a topic my map
is soon four or more pages wide and completely unreadable. At this
point, all of XMind's bells and whistles become meaningless and I have
to migrate to XFreeMind which, though lacking XMind's sophisticated
options, does have text wrapping.

It is enough of an annoyance that it prevents me from cracking open my
piggy bank. No word wrap, no upgrade.

Hi

Now in XMind, you can use "shift+enter" to wrap text.

Or when editing the text, you may see little green arrows on the right,
you can drag it and adjust the width of the topic as you like.

Please see more details at:

Hi

Jut a thought on style.

As an overly verbose note taker, I understand your point but I am
finding excessive text in topics makes it difficult to follow the
overall mind map. It seems to work better, for me, to put a couple of
keywords in the topic then press F4 to put the extended verbiage into
a note. That seems to keep the overall map easier to follow while
allowing me to satisfy my craving for more detail to be immediately
available.

I agree with Will but as noted in other topics on this subject, the
Notes do not get exported to other formats. As others have suggested,
setting a configurable auto wrap point should be an easy modification.

I won't dare to say that it should be easy to implement, as when a
project is large in size no change is completely trivial; but I truly
hope it is, for my sake and the sake of others that have requested
this feature! Personally, I want to import my big library of maps from
freemind, but most of my trees' "leaves" have big chunks of text (I
was using them as XMind's notes). So being able to set an auto-maximum
width would be super! (A text box in the options perhaps, input in
pixels or some other unit?)

Thank you so much for all your hard work! :)

I agree, this is what I really miss when trying to import Maps from
freemind.

Hi Sirs

Normally, my topic only has a few words.Instead, I put more details as notes or separate them into multiple subtopics. Then my mind maps are very readable. And it's easy to grab the important/necessary information too.

So I agree with Will Horton.

While extracting the topic style, XMind should extract the topic width as one element. Then I think it will be better.

Sincerely!

Stephen

Me too! Except that you don't get that chance when you import maps
from other applications. I'm all for using notes, but I can't hand-
convert all of my old maps into the new format just to be able to view
them... I hope you can understand that.
