I have been over a hour looking for how to number topics. I go nuts
trying to find stuff in the Xmind Help manual.
I finally found the following under Topic Properties by doing a Google
search of "Xmind & Numbering". When I finally found the information
below, I still could not figure how to number topics, because I cannot
find anything called Numbering in the properties menu.
Can somebody tell me how to do topic numbering?
Topic Properties
1. Select the Topic.
2. Open the Properties view.
3. You can make the following changes to the topic:
* Structure: select the structure type in the drop-down list
of this topic and its subtopics.
* Text: change the 'Text Font', 'Size', 'Type', 'Color', and
'Alignment'.
* Shape: select boundary type and background color of topic.
* Line: change the line type, width, and color, which link
this topic and its subtopic.
* Numbering:
o Choose number style: There are four styles for
choice, and None to cancel number.
o Inherit parents' number: Enabling this will let
subtopics inherit the number from parents' topics.
o Pre and Suf: You can enter prefix number in the Pre
field to appear before the Number, or enter suffix numbers in the Suf
field to appear after "dot".

If I select the main topic, I DO NOT see Numbering in the Properties
View.
If I select a sub-topic, then I DO see Numbering in the Properties
View.
So the fact that you cannot search for numbering in the Help file is a
bummer. I had to do a Google search and then dig through a long list
of results to find out that Numbering was covered under Properties
View. But then I could still not figure out how to do numbering,
because the Xmind Help document does not tell you that you have to
select a sub-topic in order to see Numbering in the Properties View. I
took me 1.5 hours to figure out how to do numbering. These problems
should be fixed in the Help document.

Hi Stephan,
Thanks for your helpful reply. I get it.
Further question on this topic: Is it possible to have numbers continue with an unbroken sequence at a brother level across branches?
Bill
PS. I would have left this reply on the group but am having trouble finding my original post.
