Hi all. I've uploaded one of my mind maps through my XMind 7 free desktop version to the XMind cloud but unfortunately I can't find that mind map in the cloud's My Maps after logging in. What do I miss? Many thanks.

Huskey,

To complete what Stephen said, My maps and Xmind Cloud are two different cloud services. A map saved in one, doesn't show in the other.

Thank you for your answers. What is the difference between the two cloud services?

Share is mostly ,eh, for sharing. You provide others a location to view maps on-lline (with some limitations) and/or download them to be opened in the desktop version. You can control whether the maps there are public or not (for you only, for all who know where to look, or for really anyone).

Cloud is more to yourself, a location to store so that you can continue to work on your map on another computer (desktop version of Xmind) or with a web-browser (any device with a web-browser). It also allows you to show your work to others using just a browser.

Neither cloud solution support collaboration, at least in any feasible way, in any level.

More a personal opinion...

Share is rather superfluous. There are more than enough sharing services, and many users probably use already some of them (Dropbox, iCloud, Google Docs etc.) so the only things Share brings on the table are the ease of sharing (directly in Xmind) and a public gallery of maps (if you decide to publish your map to all).

Cloud is for those who have cried for a version of Xmind for iPhone/Android/whatever-mobile-device. Instead of investing a device-specific versions of Xmind, the company has made a version that can be used with just a web-browser. I fail to see any real use of Xmind Cloud on a mobile device but the ability to show maps with just a browser might come handy one day.

What's the best way to share a large XMind map in Google Drive in such a way that visitors can pan and zoom it? Thx in advance ..

Martha,

Firstly I have make a correction. Google's cloud storage service is called Google Drive, not Docs.

Google Drive is a storage-as-a-service (STaaS) while Google Docs is a software-as-a-service (SaaS). (Aren't these acronyms wonderful?) The distinction between these is that in Drive you can save any file while with Docs you can edit certain types of files. What blurs the distinction is that some cloud storages have viewers for some file types, usually pictures. Microsoft provides previews for its MS Office files in Microsoft's OneDrive and to some third-party cloud storages, but that's a MS-specific solution. There is no general way to have a preview of whatever file, i.e. for Google Drive or any other cloud storage to provide a view of a Xmind map they must have a viewer for Xmind maps. Currently the only cloud storage that some sort of preview of Xmind maps is <beat of a drum> Xmind Share.

So, what can you do?
1) Put your map in Xmind Cloud and give your user name and password to your friends (strongly NOT recommended).
2) Put your map in Xmind Share and publish it in any way you want, but be prepared to hit some limitations.
3) Export your map as HTML and put the exported version in a cloud storage for people to see. Be prepared for some heavy post-export editing to have a decent presentation.
4) Put your map in a cloud storage of your choice (Dropbox, iCloud, Google Drive, OneDrive etc.) and urge your friends/co-workers to install Xmind to open your map with.

HTH

In future, XMind should solve this two cloud service problem :)

An other option could be sharing the file through Evernote.
