After messing around for a bit I discovered the following procedure
can be used to install XMind 3.x on Windows x64. This works on
Windows 7 Ultimate and should work on any Windows x64 O/S or at least
on Vista and Win7. It might be possible to simplify but definitely
works as listed.

NOTE: This requires both the Windows installer and the portable
version zip file.

• Install the standard Windows version into \Program Files
(x86)\XMind
• Create an “XMind_Windows” folder under the install folder (i.e. C:
\Program Files (x86)\XMind\XMind_Windows)
• Copy all installed files from the \Program Files (x86)\XMind folder
into the new folder
• Create a “Commons” folder under \Program Files (x86)\XMind
• Copy the entire contents of the “Commons” folder in the portable
version zip file to the newly created Commons folder
• Create a “jre” folder under the \Program Files (x86)\XMind
\XMind_Windows folder
• Copy the entire contents of the “XMind_Windows\jre” folder from the
portable version zip file into the newly created jre folder
• Create a shortcut for Xmind.exe in the XMind_Windows folder

It may also be necessary to install the 64-bit (and/or perhaps the x86
JRE) and add one/both bin files to the system PATH variable. I did
this before coming up with the procedure above.

This worked for XMind 3.2.0 using version 3.1.1 of XMind portable. I
haven't tried upgrading yet but it might be possible to simply point
the new Windows installer to the existing \Program Files (x86)\XMind
\XMind_Windows folder.

Good luck and happy mapping!
