First reason: You don't have the ability to 'clone' a sheet (I want
one sheet to be a 'before', and the other an 'after' with a few
alterations) - I think this is a real shortcoming. I tried to get
around it by creating a new sheet, selecting and copying everything in
the 'before' sheet and then pasting into the 'after' sheet. However,
when you create a new sheet you get a central topic that can't be
deleted. When I paste everything gets screwed up with topics getting
connected to the unwanted central topic.

Second reason: What is the point of being able to insert a 'Floating
Central Topic' if I can't get rid of the fixed central topic?

Third reason: I am doing a workflow - a group of floating topics of
various shapes and sizes connected by relations. As I develop this I
am constantly moving things around. However, I can't move the Central
Topic ... so I'd like to delete it (or replace it with a floating
Central Topic).

I am not all that experienced with XMind, and am looking forward to
either directions on deleting the central topic or work-arounds for my
other issues.

Thanks

All you need is in the menu 'Insert' -> 'New Sheet From Topic...'.
(:

Try this:
- leave the central topic blank
- adjust all of its properties (shape (no border) and lines (color of background)) to make it invisible
