I am having trouble executing xmind (portable version). I unzipped the
file to my USB, then tried running the app. I got the following error
message: "The Xmind executable launcher was unable to locate its
companion shared library."

I originally sent an e-mail SOS and Stephen Zhu responded with the
following instructions --
Do you follow the right steps:
* unzip the downloaded zip file to a clear folder
* open the folder and find the right one to your operating system
* open that folder and launch

I had unzipped the contents to an empty folder, but I'm not sure I
understand the second step. My folder (named xMind) contains 1193
objects but no sub-folders.

I've skimmed through some of the past posts describing similar
problems with the portable version, but I couldn't find a clear
solution.

Any suggestions on how I can fix this?

Hi

You may download the wrong file. The portable version zip file is 127M, and has 5 sub-folders and 3 other files after being unzipping.
What you should download is named :

XMind 3 Portable - ZIP * (Windows + Mac + Linux)

OR:

XMind Pro 3 Portable - ZIP * (Windows + Mac + Linux)

Sincerely
Stephen

Did you get to fix it. I have the same problem.

I'm using Windows XP. So out of the 5 folders that appear in my
unzipped 127 MB big folder (called "Xmind-
portable-3.0.2.200903221757") I choose the subfolder called "XMind for
Windows" and copy it in a folder called "F:\PortableApps\Xmind\ " on
my SanDisk U3 stick.

Than i try to start F:\PortableApps\Xmind\XMind for Windows\xmind.exe
The result is the error message mentioned by carlosA.

I found in another thread, that I would have to refresh the
applications at the U3 Launchpad. This makes sense, but I don't know
how.

Any suggestions?

Hi

You should move the whole folder together. Of course, you can delete "XMind for Mac" and "XMind for Linux", if you are using Windows. But other folders are necessary to launch XMind.

Sincerely!

Stephen Zhu's fix worked for me!

I was only copying over the folder "Xmind_Windows" and it wouldn't work.

Extract all the files to a folder on C: drive.  Then delete the version folders you don't need, leaving everything else exactly as it is.  Then go into the version folder you're using —in my case, the Windows version— execute the file assocation batch file, then execute Xmind.  Worked a charm!
