How to create map branches from pasted text?

Hi...

I'm having trouble doing something which I believe worked a few days
ago... I'd like to copy a simple list of items (say from TextEdit),
and paste them into XMind -- with each item forming a branch. The
tree structure should follow the indentation pattern of the original
text. But--right now when I select a list of items and paste them,
they form one large chunk of text on a single branch.

What do I need to do so that successive lines of text translate into
separate branches?

Thanks,
Alan

Bumping this question. Is there a way to paste an outline into Xmind and have it automatically recreate the outline structure as nested topics in the map?

Hi, there…

I received a copy of your "bump"--does that mean you're echoing my question?  If so--I may be able to help.

Best,
Alan

Well, *I* am echoing.
If you have any hint, I'll take it :)

Hi, Michel,

Here’s what I’ve discovered.  If I work with a word processing program (say MS Word) and use the outlining feature, and then copy and paste the text into Xmind, the outline structure does not get preserved.  If, however, I format an outline in Word simply by using tabs, the outline structure *does* get preserved when I paste the text into Xmind.

For example…   If you copy the following text and paste it into an Xmind map, the structure should be preserved - Fruits, Vegetables, and Meats will be branches, and apples, oranges, etc. will be subbranches.

Food
Fruits
Apples
Oranges
Bananas
Vegetables
String beans
Peas
Corn
Meat
Beef
Pork
Chicken

Hope that helps!
Alan
