Hi folks. I'm nearing the end. Just noticed a unicode character issue, whereby the following  langData element hɐlaː comes out in the pdf as hɒlaː, so the vowel ɐ comes out as ɒ. This happens repeatedly. Incidentally, if I type the vowel ɒ in a langData element, that also (correctly) comes out as ɒ in the pdf.

Is that something to do with XLP or my pdf reader maybe? I'm using the default pdf viewer in UBuntu 22.04 andI've also opened the file in LibreOffice Draw, which also displays the same incorrect ipa symbol.

Anyone any ideas? If it's not quickly solvable I'll just replace the /ɐ/ with a /ə/. It's not a phonology paper anyway.

Hi Ian,
If I can enter ɐ into xxe, then it comes out correctly in the PDF output for me.
I do have some difficulty entering it using the IPA Unicode 6.2 (ver 1.4 US) MSK keyboard -- when the dead key just seems to be ignored. But if I type them into some other program (e.g., Notepad) I can copy and paste them in fine and everything then seems to work.
(In case it is relevant, I also have my xxe Preferences set to use Charis SIL Compact as the default serif font and Andika as the defualt sans serif (in the View section).)
Cheers, bruce

Could this be a case where there are font features involved with Charis SIL?  See the attached for a case where how one keys the font features can make a difference in how some characters come out.

And congratulations on nearing the end!

It's possible -- but the only feature documented* as affecting U+0250 on https://software.sil.org/charis/features/ is Slant italic specials with ss05=0. Note that this is the default setting, which seems to mean that if you are using italics, that is what you get unless you change the feature to ss05=1. (I suspect I don't have the right version of XeLaTeX installed to test this.) You aren't putting language data in italics by default are you?
Cheers, bruce
