Hi,
It seems like I have some permission errors in my installation of XLingPaper (XLP) that I don’t know how to resolve (I have given the XMLmind app Full disk Access, but the problems persist). I have updated to XLM 3.12.0 and am using XMLmind 8.2.0 Personal Edition. I haven’t been using XLP much lately, so I think this problem existed with at least the last XLP version, as well.

I can’t open an XLP document from the Finder, even though XMLmind.app is the default application to open XML documents. I can, however, open them from XMLmind using the Open command/menu item, (but I have to use the macOS file chooser, not the default multi-platform file chooser—more on that below).

When I open a document, make changes and then try to save it, I get this error message:

When I delete the backup xml~ file I am able to save the document.

When I try to produce a PDF, I get this error even though the PDF is not open, nor the PDF file viewer that I can tell:

screenshot_1.png

When I changed the file name of the existing PDF output and then it would proceed producing a new PDF (presumably, deleting/overwriting the existing PDF was not permitted), however, it resulted in this error (and no PDF output):

Note: “Operation not permitted”

Furthermore, if I use the default “multi-platform file chooser” to open documents, I can navigate to my Documents folder, but it won’t display its contents. It will, however, display the contents of some folders. Choosing to use the macOS file chooser for the Open command in the Preferences solves this problem, however, it is impossible for me to add a stylesheet to an XLP document since that command brings up the default file chooser and not the macOS file chooser.

Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Kevin

Try checking out what's on https://software.sil.org/xlingpaper/using-the-xmlmind-xml-editor-on-mac-os-x-10-15/, especially the "Cannot open files" portion and it link.  Apparently there are special security rules that are preventing XXE 8.2 from writing over already existing files.

Does that do the trick?

Thanks so much, Andy; that worked! It seems I must have done this work around a long time ago and then forgot to do it when I updated to Big Sur. 😬 —Kevin
