Wonderful and fitting eulogy from Muktesh for PS Sharma.I got to know him when he moved into Brookefids as GM Technical for the Oils and Dairy fats business. He was a down to earth and passionate leader. He would always get involved in projects with full verve and energy. He spoke his mind and fought for his people and point of view. Never let his disagreements on issues affect the personal relationships. He was a proud member of HLL family. His was a Levers family - both his son and son - in - law had significant innings in the company on their own merits.I enjoyed his company and continued to be in touch till recently. He was a regular attendee at our alumni meets across the cities.May his soul rest in peace. Heartfelt condolences to his family.RegardsHarish--On Wed, 25 Aug 2021, 00:33 Micky Gmail, <muktes...@gmail.com> wrote:Just got some very unfortunate news: “Heartbroken to inform you that my father, Mr PS Sharma passed away this afternoon. 🙏Sunil Sharma”
Many of you may recall that PS Sharma (Purush) was in HUL in the technical function from the 70s through the 90s. In the 80s I was fortunate to work alongside him in the Exports Department over several years.
PS as we called him was one of the cadre of great people that built the Unilever business in India - honest to a fault, exceptionally loyal, highly driven, willing to take any challenge - all this with a humanity towards staff and workers and a friendly manner with colleagues. I really loved working with him and we travelled on many unfamiliar roads, from Kandla and personal care products to Varanasi and carpets. I can recall so many flights, car rides, factory visits, dinners and fun evenings.
After he retired he always kept in touch and would visit his daughter and son-in-law in the US and his sons in Singapore and India. A few years ago his wife passed away from an illness and he leaned on his children and old friends as he coped with his tragedy.
PS was much more than a capable engineer and business executive. He had a very level head, a quiet but intense manner, the ability to innovate around constraints and build relationships. Gone with him are shared memories of an extraordinary time in the company’s and country’s history - one marked by shortages of resources and foreign exchange, retrograde government policies, but none sufficient to hold back the will of honest companies like HLL.
A sad day indeed, but I suppose one that the relentless drumbeat of time makes inevitable. Those of us who knew and worked with PS can celebrate his life and look back with gratitude that we had the chance to know him.
With utmost respect to the memory of PS Sharma,
Muktesh Pant
