Rick, Dean: does that mean we stay in Yahoo? Or do we switch over to
Google?

Right now, I think we should continue both. The situation on Yahoo is
better and will inprove even more -- when Barry makes a few more
people moderators.

XJ-Riders is like having a private home where "The Regulars" can
communicate without the entire membership of XJ-Group being involved.

Although --- there are scores and scores of XJ-Group members who are
"Hard Bouncing" and Yahoo says the accounts are closed. So, the
700-odd "members" over there -- is an inflated number, which contains
names of people that aren't even on Yahoo, anymore!

Anybody care to suggest what I might do to further improve the Yahoo site?
I'm wide open to suggestions from this side. I don't want to have to
do it all alone. There ought to be several moderators so we have
everything under control if the others go on holiday.

RIGHT?

It would certainly be good to remove closed accounts from the Yahoo XJ (YXJ vs GXJ?))member list.
Then you could see where things stand. Beats me how you do that though. Maybe issue a 'reminder'
that members will be excommunicated if they don't respond within say, a month. They can always
rejoin.
There are a few 'features' missing from Google groups which I find annoying.

I think I've said it before but...

1. You can't have multiple source addresses to post from with Google.
2. The account is by email address, so if you want to change your email address, you have to start
a new membership.
3. If your membership address is different to your gmail address, it is tricky to be logged in to
gmail and the group at the same time (I can do it in different tabs of Firefox, but I don't think
it is supposed to work.)
4. The navigation in Google -account membership and groups- is kludgy.
5. Probably more, but I can't think of them at the moment.

I think Google should have paid more attention to what is good about Yahoo groups and membership.
It seems to me that what they want is for members to have one gmail account, and use that
exclusively for their group memberships. That is not flexible enough for me.

Ken.

KLUDGY --  I believe is a technical term used by race team members to quickly describe a "Spongy feeling clutch"

"This things kludgy and I'm not getting clean shifts."

And then there's --  "That bird you left here with last night was pretty kludgy lookin' , mate!  You didn't have to gnaw off your own arm to sneak away, now, did you?"

Believe it or not...it's in the dictionary: KLUDGE

  1. A system, especially a computer system, that is constituted of poorly matched elements or of elements originally intended for other applications.
  2. A clumsy or inelegant solution to a problem.
Can't wait for the next meeting in the office to use the word.

I couldn't agree more, Ken. I just complained to Dean about it.

Yahoo is more convenient. The e-mail address thingy sucks in Google.
