I'm told I need to make-up a special audio cable in order to use a
self-powered, Sennheiser Shotgun microphone, or a small battery-powered,
professional, clip-on mic with my SONY Digital video camera. Here's what's
called for:
An audio cable which has a standard XLR-3 pin female connector to accept
regular mic level audio. The camcorder end is a right-angled stereo mini plug,
and the incoming audio from the mic's is bridged over both the left and right
camcorder stereo channels so as to eliminate the problem that an empty track
will cause during sound recording. In addition, blocking capacitors must
be installed in the XLR end ... built into this cable ... to knock out the 4 to
6 volts DC found at the camcorder mic input jack. If left "unblocked" this DC
voltage will create a hum and/or buzz, when professional mics, having their own
power sources, are plugged into the camcorder's audio IN jack.
Can anybody draw-up what the connections will look like at the XLR end ...
assuming that I will sacrifice headphones or the lead to some other device, in
order to have a molded Rt. angle stereo plug already affixed to a length of
audio cable?
Much obliged!
