The Chicago Welcome Back Center welcomes internationally-educated professionals back to their fields of expertise, in both healthcare and education. By providing tools and resources, we can help professionals prepare to attain certification to work in Illinois.

Since its inception in 2001, the Welcome Back Initiative has served close to 15,000 participants from 167 countries with a mission to build a bridge between the pool of internationally trained health workers already living in the United States and the need for linguistically and culturally competent health services in underserved communities. The centers work closely with participants to develop career pathway plans that builds on their education, experience, and skills.

The Chicago Welcome Back Center (CWBC) is a partnership between Richard J. Daley College and the Chicago Bilingual Nurses Consortium (CBNC) designed to address multiple persistent problems within the healthcare system, including workforce and healthcare disparities in lower income and immigrant populations in Chicago.

The Chicago Bilingual Nurses Consortium was founded in 1989 at Alivio Medical Center and has more than thirty years of experience helping nearly one thousand bilingual, bicultural, and internationally educated nurses attain the experience and credentials they need to practice their profession in the US.

Please join Maxwell AFB for the 50th anniversary of Operation Welcome Home. As one of only 10 AFBs to welcome POWs and their families back to the U.S. after the Vietnam War, our ultimate goal is to honor all POW/MIAs. In an effort to do so, we are hosting a 24-hour relay to run for and remember our veterans. Please review the available slots below and click on the button to sign up. We need at least one runner to carry the torch and one reader to say names every 30 minutes for 24 hours. Thank you!

Maxwell AFB is honoring the contributions or our Veterans with travelling display of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, which is the most visited memorial on the National Mall in Washington D.C. Other famous and inspiring memorials will be on display spanning World War 1 to the attack in Fort Hood, Texas.

In 1973, Operation Homecoming became the massive effort to return 591 American prisoners of war held by North Vietnam following the Paris Peace Accords that ended U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War. Maxwell Air Force Base played a pivotal role in this historic event when they were selected to be one of only 10 Air Force bases to welcome the POWs home. Between Feb. 14 through April 1, 43 POWs landed at Maxwell and reunited with their families and loved ones.
