Hi guys,

I am visiting Shanghai for a few days and would like to shop for some electronics while here.

I am looking for electronics on a "hobby level", meaning breadboards, arduinos, sensors etc.

I have visited some of the markets on the electronics market map http://xinchejian.com/tag/electronic-market/, but they have been either too high level (selling phones, laptops) or too low level (selling transistors, discrete TTL logic etc). The ones I have visited are Modern Electronic City, Metro City and Shanghai Seg Electron Market.

Could you point out what market might be good fit for what I am looking for? Thanks.

For arduino you will be hard pressed to find them in stores. Xinchejian stocks them and if you want a large order we can get a fast delivery of them from dfrobot. The markets are good for sensors and other components.

Unfortunately I dont have the time to wait for shipping. Is there any one or two markets you would recommend in particular for finding sensors?
Thanks

Hi Jakob,

just let us know what you need and we will try to get it. There is no shipping time since almost everythingl is available in Shanghai.

To be honest what I am mostly interested in is to browse a good sized market randomly to see if I can find something interesting for a good price.

Some specific sensors I am looking for are a GPS module, air pressure sensor and ultrasonic range finder.

Thanks

aww that sucks dude, http://taobao.com is our bestest friend evar!

hit the electronics all on beijing dong lu near hai lun lu, it's about 4
floors of stuff above floor 3 it's not worth going up, but its a jungle
in there, the ultrasonics can be found near the escalator to go down on
the right hand side on the 1st floor (4pins) for GPS hit a few stores on
the 2nd floor (take a product number, nothing will be assembled into a
final product) and then for the air pressure sensor the bmp05? is great
for 1m accuracy just go with a shopping list.

fyi i havn't found a good GPS unit at a low price. it's actually cheaper
to buy am android phone with dual/quadcore, wifi, 3g, screen, battery,
GPS.. all that stuff than a GPS unit! but go with product numbers and
you'll find the parts you need.

additionally look for the sharp IR sensors, these are much more accurate
than the U/S you will find, i purchased the good u/s from dfrobot and
they "just work" where as the cheapies have false positives/block/refuse
to work on a busy IC bus.

YMMV

Awesome, thanks Paul!

I can't find the intersection you mention though. It seems like beijing east road (北京东路) and hailun lu (海伦路) do not cross and are not even that close to eachother.
