二次世界大戰以後，德國牧師馬丁．尼莫拉（MartinNiemoller）

為了讓世人記住納粹屠殺猶太人這一血腥恥辱，在波士頓樹起

了一塊紀念碑，碑上銘刻這樣一段話：


起初他們（德國納粹黨）追殺共產主義者，
我不是共產主義者，我不說話；


接著他們追殺猶太人，
我不是猶太人，我不說話；


後來他們追殺工會成員，
我不是工會成員，我繼續不說話；


此後他們追殺天主教徒，
我不是天主教徒，我還是不說話；


最後，他們奔向我來，
再也沒有人站起來為我說話了。


When the Nazis came for the communists,
I did not speak out
because I was not a communist.


When they came for the social democrats, I did not speak out because I
was not a social democrat.


When they came for the trade unionists
I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.


When they came for the Jews
