Hello all,

I'm looking into installing a test instance of Xerxes 2 and would like to integrate it with Summon. Now, I'm wondering can Xerxes 2 support metalib category searching with a general search mechanism such as Summon (or primo central or whatever)? Any shove towards documentation is appreciated too.

Thanks,

Hi Barnaby,

Xerxes 2 is still very much in development, so try at your own risk. :-)

My timelines on the project has also been greatly extended because of changes here at work.  There is no documentation, and I have not ported any of the Metalib functionality over to the system.

Hmm, I see. And looking at Xerxes 2 there will be a bit of a learning curve for old Xerxes users.

Is there any one out in the world that has implemented a Summon search on Xerxes 1.x? Specifically to replace the "general search" function with an indexed search instead of a federated one.

I doubt anyone has done this with Xerxes if Dave hasn't, but a related
thing I'm working on right now (it's not done yet) -- It's not Xerxes at
all, but I'm working on a library to easily execute and display Summon
searches in a Rails application, for instance Blacklight.

May or may not be of interest to you (I forget if you guys use Rails or
Blacklight at all), and may be a little bit until it's fully mature
(facets especially might not be there for a while), but I'm working on
it right now.

Here's the location of the (not finished yet!) library I'm writing to
allow searches of various vendor search providers in a Rails app.

Jonathan, this is cool and has promise for us. We use Rails and have experimented with Blacklight (just as far as throwing up an easy test instance).

I'll keep an eye on your progress for when we have a Summon instance. Thanks for the share.

Hi Jonathan,

Just looking into this again: do you have any public sample implementations of bento to see in action?

Thanks,
