I am just wondering--my institution is dropping MetaLib in the future.
But we love Xerxes. Have any other sites played with making Xerxes work with any
other underlying source for their Database listing? We are no longer doing
metasearching as we have Primo, so we would only use Xerxes as a content
management system.

Could you tell me about your project if you have done this?

Thanks,

Yes, we are doing that with Xerxes.

We aren't using another source for the database listing -- just the
Xerxes database. I wrote some custom PHP to provide some admin screens
for adding/editing/deleting the info in that database, and turned off
the Metalib sync.

This code is pretty hacky and customized for our particular needs. It's
not a great solution, but it's good enough for now. I am not willing to
support this code _in any way whatsoever_, but could share a zip of my
local customizations. But seriously, I'm not, at this time, going to be
able to help you change it or figure out how to implement it or fix it
if it breaks.

This last summer we also worked on this, also just using Xerxes itself to store the data.

You can see an example of the end-user interface here, which (purposefully) looks like it did when Metalib was the source, sans search box.

The 'management' interface is pretty nice, if I do say so myself. I actually built all of this using Xerxes 2 code, but I have some scripts and things for migrating the data in Xerxes 1.

What I don't have at the moment is documentation -- like, any kind.

I'm working on it in between (too many) other things.

But the code is here:

https://github.com/dswalker/xerxes

And I'll try to do a screen cast or something so you can see the management interface.
