Hi Folks,

When I issue the Database populate command I get the following error which appears to be related to the addition of Welsh language templates:

METALIB KNOWLEDGEBASE PULL

   Pruning cache table . . . done
   Flushing KB tables . . . done
   Fetching types . . . done
   Fetching databases . . . done
Fetching categories and assigning databases . . .
Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'Exception' with message 'Could not find any categories in the Metalib KB' in /usr/local/xerxes/commands/databases/PopulateDatabases.php:185

In addition, though the DB Pull is successful if I remove Welsh from the config file, my quicksets (e.g. quick-search) do not seem to match those displayed in the native metalib interface.

Does anyone have any suggestions where things might be going wrong?

Thanks,

Luke

This is a stab in the dark.  Do you have any punctuation or diacritics in the name of any category.  What is the address of your native metalib interface (you know, the one you would be embarrassed for your users to see).

Something like this.

It might help to see what your categories/quicksets look like in the native interface.

A couple of basic questions here, Luke:

  1. Do you have a Welsh translation of the categories in Metalib itself?

  2. Have you recently clicked the ‘All Subcategories’ link Categories admin?

Hi Folks,

Thanks for your replies.

The native categories don't match what we have in Xerxes which is the issue.

Our MetaLib instance can be seen at http://ifindresearch.swan.ac.uk/V and our Xerxes instance can be seen at http://ifind.swan.ac.uk/research

We don't have a translation of the the categories in Welsh in Metalib itself - I assume from the querstion that this is necessary? To my knowledge, I don't think our System Manager has clicked the "All Subcategories Link" in the Admin interface - shall I get him to do that?

Thanks,

Luke

Yeah, definitely click on the ‘all subcategories’ link in Categories admin.

That essentially causes Metalib to commit changes to the database – or something like that.   This is a weird Metalib bug that only shows-up via the X-Server.

That, I think, is the immediate issue.

Hi Folks,

Running the populate command frequently fails for us with errors like "Cannot process search at this time", "Category has no resources", "Connection Timed Out" etc

Is this "normal" (e.g. Metalib being Metalib)

Cheers,

Luke

The first and the last one are serious errors.  They are not typical, but can show-up if your Metalib server is having problems with space (particularly the Oracle table space) or is being overtaxed in some way.

‘Category has no resources’ is a warning, I think.  We see that frequently here in knowledgebases that haven’t been updated that recently.  Not sure what it means, exactly.
